The Adventurers Chapter 1 Introduction at Raymond Inn

The narrator arrives in Raymond in the Gwent marches and meets a rough crowd at the Swan Inn. Montgomery, a strong, boastful youth, clashes with locals as stories of a castle burglary surface. The narrator intervenes once, then plans to explore the Gwent and Ivor castle, beginning in the nearby village. In Chapter II, morning at the inn reveals Montgomery’s tendency to overstep and hints at tensions over land, while the narrator rides toward Linnellan and stumbles into a roadside incident where an elderly man is attacked by a thief.
