Tragic Death Of William Orkies In Saloon Shooting
The Louisville Times reports William Orkies aged thirty, a blacksmith from 2005 Seventh Street, was accidentally shot by his friend John Riley at 1885 Seventh Street saloon. Orkies died instantly from a .38 caliber bullet to the forehead as Riley, a bartender, claimed no intent. Witnesses include Thomas Munford and A Arnold. Riley surrendered. murder charged. The scene drew a large crowd. coroner and undertaker notified. Orkies, formerly of Louisville, had been married there. funeral attendance was large. The Sun extends sympathy. the killer is said to be despondent and watched. The article notes typhoid illness of Dr. W. R. Thompson.

Death claims John Shewmaker in Ca ny section
Last Saturday night about midnight John Shewmaker died after a brief illness from a paralysis stroke. He was seventy five, lifelong resident of the county, known and liked by all, and a member of Mackville Methodist church. Funeral services were held Monday at Mackville with interment at Wilksburg. He leaves a wife and nine children. He was brother to Cal Showmaker, a well known stock man.

Deaths at St Catherine's claim two long serving sisters
Sister Mary Raymond died at St Catherine's Sunday night at 9 of complications and burial followed on Monday. She was 60, had served thirty five years at the community and led as Superior of the Lowell Mass convent before moving to Kentucky. Sister Mary Lawrence, 59, a long time member of the order, died after months with tuberculosis and was interred at St Catherine's Saturday.

Republicans Join Bryan and Kern Club in Fullerton
In Fullerton Kentucky on August 21 the Bryan and Kern Club formed Saturday doubled its membership at a meeting last night. Five lifelong Republicans and two Republican first voters joined. A Bryan photograph was purchased and speeches by the Great Commoner highlighted each gathering. President Bruce, a converted Republican, is set to speak next Thursday night. Later Mr. Kehoe, the congressional candidate, will be invited to address the club.

The Rev Father M A McFeeley of the Dominican order died of dropsy Saturday afternoon at St Mary and Elizabeths Hospital. His body lay in state at Louis Bertrand church with thousands viewing. A solemn requiem mass followed the office for the dead and sermon by Rev Father Clark.

Successful Institute Concludes Five Day County Meeting
The Teachers Institute of Washington County ended after five days in the Graded School building. Supt. Bush and Prof. Noe led a highly successful event, with Mrs. Mengel urging school beautification and the formation of a School Improvement League. A new league was organized, and resolutions praised the new Kentucky school law and funding while supporting first-class certificates. An open meeting featured Prof. Noe on Peals of Life, Supt. Bush on the law, and notable music from a large audience.

Tragic Accident Shoots McChord Boy Near Willisburg
A colored boy named McChord was shot in the head by Berry Graves on the Willisburg Pike near Mr Will Merrit’s home. Graves, about sixteen, was revolving the chamber of a long barrel .38 pistol when it discharged, striking McChord in the brain. The injured boy, about twelve, died two hours later.
