The Falcon and Mrs S B Thompson opened the Veranda Hotel to the public on Monday evening with a formal reception led by Mayor C D Thomas and city officials. Guests toured the building praising its furnishings while a large timberland sale in Mississippi valued at 250000 dollars was announced. John McChord, after twenty eight years as a local attorney for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, has resigned and will devote his future to general practice. He, with Maj. W J Lisle, served as the railroad’s local legal representatives for years, though Lisle resigned last year. Since then McChord and W W Spalding, county attorney of Marion County, handled the case. No successor to McChord has been named.
Mr Arthur of Strickland describes five years of kidney and liver sickness with back pain and dyspepsia, once constipated. After using Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets he says he has been well for six months and recommends the remedy, with it sold by dealers everywhere.
Dr Joseph Barr attending physician at the State penitentiary presented last Sunday to his sister Margie of this city a violin made by a convict. The instrument is carved and finished with a penknife and is praised as a marvelous piece of work produced in the hospital department where the prisoner serves his spare time designing and carving novelties.
Rev. Wm. H. Williams will commence speaking at various county locations to promote local option. Scheduled dates include Texas on April 25, Valley Hill on April 26, Hardin's Chapel on April 29 at 3 PM, Pottsville on May 4, and Hardin's Creek Baptist Church on May 6 at night.
