A large tobacco barn belonging to M D Reed at Valley Hill burned last Friday around 8 pm along with nearly all contents. About 9000 pounds of tobacco, mostly Tom Reed’s, was lost. The cause is unknown with suspicions of incendiary origin. No insurance covered barn or contents. extensive losses include corn hay buggy farming implements and harness.
A three year old colored girl, daughter of Suzan Graves, drowned Saturday afternoon at a spring on Thomas W Simms Place in the town's western part. The mother sent the child for water. a colored woman found the body face down in the water about half an hour later and removed it.
Mrs Porter Hill born in the county and formerly near Mackville died Sunday of consumption at her mother Mrs Nannie Nunan’s Bardstown home, where she had lived about three weeks. She leaves a husband and three children. Remains interred in Bardstown last Monday.
Rev W T Gordon will give a free lecture on April 19 in the evening, with the topic Love Marriage Divorce described as a sail on the sea of matrimony and its enjoyments and perils. All are invited. Representatives from nearly every county section met in Mr. W F Grigsby s law office to discuss extending the Cumberland Telephone system across Washington county. Cumberland Telephone Co would install exchanges in Mackville Willisburg Mooresville and other points if franchises and minor concessions are granted. Committees will report next Monday and a definite plan is hoped for. The move promises monthly savings on box rents and greater convenience for residents.

Everett Keeling and Miss Myrtle Sutherland of Willisburg attended church at Tatham Springs Sunday. Morris Cheatham and Robert Keeling bought horses for 100 dollars. Ivan Carey bought a horse for 75 dollars. John Hungate and Ivan Keeling bought buggies for 120 dollars each. A social at Silas Burkhead’s home drew a large crowd and was enjoyed by all.

E A Cox announces he will only take photographs on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays due to other business commitments. He expects to go out of the business within sixty days and urges interested buyers to come at once.
Secretary of War William H Taft will take thirty senators and congressmen to the Philippines in July to meet leading Filipinos and assess needs for legislation. He favors free trade with the United States and removal of duties on sugar and tobacco. President Roosevelt said on Taft’s departure that things will be all right, noting he has Taft “sitting on the lot” to manage the Santo Domingo matter.

A three year old boy fell into a water filled sink hole behind his Covington avenue home. A nearby colored man spotted the child and pulled him to safety just in time, preventing sure drowning on a Saturday afternoon.

The April term of the Piscal Court adjourned for a quorum rise. A 2 percent tax levy on property funds turnpikes and bridges and a general county levy were set, with a 1.50 poll tax. Robert Noe re elected County Treasurer at 100 dollars yearly. A County Supervisor of roads and bridges will be appointed to oversee all county roads and bridges, centralizing finances and maintenance, with a special session on the 20th to elect the position holder.
