Fire at Two North Springfield Frame Buildings Arraigns Local Arson
A Monday morning blaze at two frame houses owned by D B Taylor near Commercial and Jefferson streets, opposite a hotel, led to Taylor’s arrest. Witnesses described a man seen around the house hours before the fire, and a sewing machine and printing materials were spared. The trial ended with dismissal after conflicting testimony from Ira Wightman and Carrie Cane. The paper notes a second fire setback and reports surrounding church services and holy communion at a local Catholic church.
