Knowledge on grasses and farming methods in old era

A broad 19th century style survey discusses learning plant knowledge through hands on grass germination trials in sandy soils, forming grass herbarium clubs, keeping litter for manure, fattening old cows with pumpkins and oil cake, a horse spinal meningitis scare in New York, Beecher on sleep, a Maine accident, varied wedding musings, and public morals on drinking and treating. It emphasizes practical, small scale experiments, seed collection, and community opposition to excessive drinking.
