San Domingo ships clash over American flag incident
An American passenger, Gen. Pablo Villanueva, a former Dominican minister, was seized from the steamship T Domingo at San Domingo after authorities attempted to remove him. Captain Kubt tied American flags to the ship and warned intruders as fifty soldiers tore them down and carried the disabled man ashore. The Consul protested but the ship sailed with Villanueva under U.S. protection.
