July 4 Ash Grove patriot rally and parade
Ash Grove hosts a large Fourth of July celebration drawing about two thousand people from Dade and Polk counties. The program features a band, choir, a long parade, a Declaration reading, speeches by Hon. J. Ro. Waddill, and a big dinner, with later entertainment including Black Crook imagery. The event suffers from lack of a formal programme and the absence of Governor Shelby.

Cincinnati letter from July 9 1877 discusses post Commerce failure hardships. It notes rent and living costs rising while wages fall, forcing tenants into smaller homes or shared spaces and summarizing housing price declines and government or civic responses. It also covers food costs, clothing prices, and local trade effects including flour and meat prices and a Turko Russian War impact. The piece oddly mentions a "white elephant" railroad project and ongoing public works spending.
