Deep plowing and manure use aid drought crops a New York farm

A farmer details deep 10 inch plowing with Holbrook No 4 moldboard and No 7 Seizes plow, plus thorough soil pulverization, to improve corn yields on sandy loam. He notes deeper cultivation reduces labor, increases crop vigor, and preserves soil air. Ammonia and salt applications for wheat and other crops are discussed, with caution on over-stimulation and soil balance. The piece emphasizes practical agriculture learning and the need for science in farming.
