Edward Henry Marynewich aged 22 died in Vancouver British Columbia on September 18. Born in Warsaw Poland he came to Canada early and lived in Beausejour with his parents before enlisting in the war. A veteran of the Italian campaign he resided with his sister Mrs M Hirshen Jr in Vancouver. He had been in military hospital off and on since discharge a year ago. Funeral service held at St Marys Roman Catholic church Beausejour on September 13 with Rev J Gurka officiating. Burial in Beausejour RC cemetery. Renshaw Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
WINNIPEG September 16 military authorities announce the Pacific Star will be awarded to all Canadian personnel who served in the Pacific Theatre including the Hong Kong Grenadiers. Winnipeg Grenadiers now entitled to wear the star regardless of rank or decoration between the 39 45 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. The award commemorates their battles and imprisonment.
National Defence Headquarters announced plans for the Army transition from war to peace time status with 1 October as a tentative date. Interim Force personnel would be struck off strength and re-attested in the Canadian Army Active Force, with new pay rates likely taking effect then.
