Winnipeg Vets win Beausejour ball tournament

The Winnipeg Vets won the Beausejour tournament after three games. Beausejour beat Tyndall 6-2, Vets beat Tyndall 15-6, and the Vets edged Beausejour 1-0 in ten innings. Proceeds go to the War Memorial. Beausejour Baseball club added $50 from prize money to the rink fund. Manager Claude Shields praised for season. Women's Institute volunteers ran the refreshment booth for memorial funds.

Community Notes of Visitors and Honored Guests

A Winnipeg hydro tour for about 175 agents attracted to Pointe du Bois included lunch and a Community hall supper. Mr and Mrs S P Burbidge hosted nieces Mildred Shirley Eleanor Stevens and Porter Ennes and Jerry Gunn from Winnipeg over the holiday. Local residents hosted friends and relatives including Cecil Spirito family and Jimmy. Rev E K Bissell received a silver tray from the community at morning service as a token of best wishes. Dorothy Garrett and Ethel Sutherland were weekend guests. The Ferns family and Donald visited with the Selines. Henry Haapala and Val Hawkes families spent the weekend visiting. Fishing proved fruitful for L Cantlon Jerry Martin and T Wetton guests at P Martins. J Hanson and family returned Monday with an odd fish or two from a holiday visit to J Preston’s home, Beatrice and A Hargest among the visitors. Continued on Page 3.

Congratulations to Matt Pearson for a standout entry at the Winnipeg Electric Employees Horticultural Show held Tuesday August 24. Pearson secured five firsts, six seconds, five thirds and the grand aggregate in flower sections 14 and 35 with victories in Gladiolus Dahlias Sweet Peas Marigolds Petunias Phlox Stocks and a grand prize in green beans.

Three new residents join Pine Falls including M Tuomalo and Miss Ross now with The Bay, and N Goodridge taking a position with Manitoba Paper Co. Pine Falls Social Roundup Notes Visits and Farewells

Local residents report guests from Winnipeg and Pine Falls including Mr and Mrs J Seraphin and family visiting during a long weekend. Mr and Mrs H Wood and son Lionel stayed with H Romano. J Iwanick returns to Pine Falls. A farewell tea for Mrs S Bylick drew about 18 friends, a white chenille bedspread presented. Jack Dean scored a hole in one at Kenora practice before a Sept 6 golf prize.

Inquest Exonerates Motorist From Lac du Bonnet

The Lac du Bonnet inquest into Felix Courchene’s death concluded that the motorist did not cause the fatal injuries. The collision occurred July 25 six miles north of Lac du Bonnet between Courchene’s truck and a Dodge sedan driven by Paul Danylchuk and with his son Bobby. The hearing was delayed due to hospital treatment of Danglebuk and his son Billy and proceeded at the Municipal hall Lac du Bonnet on September 7.

Death Resulted From Own Negligence, Man Exonerates Paul Danylchuk

Funeral for F Mastin Held at Pine Falls

Frederick Wallace Mastin died September 9 after months of ill health. He was born in Gore Bay Ontario in 1891 and was Pine Falls first chief of police and fire chief. Survived by his widow Annette five daughters two sons and four grandchildren burial at Pine Falls with service at St Therese Church conducted by Father Couture. Active pallbearers named.

Rev A C Houston was inducted into Pine Falls United church on Thursday September 9. Winnipeg visitors arrived at 1 30 p m and toured the golf course and mill before a formal service led by Rev G C McMillan of Sparling United Winnipeg. The Lac du Bonnet auxiliary opened with O Canada and roll call. Minutes were adopted. Correspondence included a Winnipeg Beach banquet notice and a $60.20 donation from Tag Day. A social event supported catering profits for Pinawa Great Falls and Seven Sisters. Prizes were drawn for the Piano Fund.

The Department of Mines and Resources announced waterfowl dates for ducks geese rails and coots with open seasons by region. North of 57th parallel runs Sept 1 to Sept 30 day. South of 57th to 53rd parallel runs Sept 23 to Oct 30 with Delta area Oct 11 start. Bag limits ducks seven geese three coots and rails fifteen daily. Occasional total season limits apply with possession caps.

The Lac du Bonnet Rural Municipality holds a Sept 7 meeting with Reeve E Wojciechowski and five councillors. By law 514 drafts a 10000 loan from the Royal Bank of Canada for current needs, while by law 516 approves Beausejour Hospital District 29 and by law 515 sets subdivision steps for Frl NW 8 areas. Final reports show accounts approved for payment including numerous staff and vendor charges totaling thousands.
