Canadian election seen as left shift and weak opposition

The Manchester Guardian offers a British view of Canadas general election. It notes the Liberal government gains in the Maritimes and western seats, minimal losses in Quebec and Ontario, and a strengthened left with the CCF, while Social Credit falters and Conservatives lose national footing. It warns that Canada faces a fragile balance of regional interests and a need for a stronger national opposition to sustain healthy democracy.
