Voters in Lac du Bonnet turnout reaches a record 95 percent for Fridays mayoralty election. Mayor Edythe M Brown defeats Eugene J Dzinkowski by a 181 to 86 margin with three spoiled ballots. Brown previously faced resignation of M Danylchuk and two earlier attempts to run.

Mrs D Lanoway Organises District Talent Show

Lady District Director Mrs. D Lanoway organizes Manitoba Farmers Union members in district 10 for a district wide talent concert in Beausejour at the town hall on November 28. The aim is to feature at least one standout from each of about 30 locals with a lunch, prize draw, and proceeds to the general directorate fund for zone 10.

Urban elected to village school board by acclamation

Arnold Urban secured 237 votes to win a seat on the village school board where two members were elected alongside W W G Smith who had 93 votes, defeating retiring chairman J A Duffly who had 164. Four ballots were spoiled.

The Beausejour Hospital Ladies Guild reports progress in fall efforts to raise funds for maintenance and equipment. They elected officers for the coming year including President Mrs C Hoban and secretaries, with committees named and plans for a Sadie Hawkins dance on November 14 to benefit the hospital maintenance fund.

Lac Du Bonnet Cat Enjoys Day At Molson

Lou Taylor the Lac du Bonnet station agent recounts a cat nicknamed a dyed in the wool railroader. The feline rode express and freight with crews, accidentally locked in, traveled to Winnipeg, then returned to Lac du Bonnet after visiting Molson Junction. The cat rode back with the evening train without paying fare.

A Larson Wins Beausejour Mayoralty By Narrow Margin

Albert Larson is elected mayor of Beausejour by a 99 vote margin over E M Wolomin in last Friday's election. Councillors chosen include P Kucninski 332 and Sid Meltzer 315 while E A Neduzak fell short at 276. A daylight saving by law was defeated 335 to 239. Other municipalities report ward and reeve results with councillors across Whitemouth St Clements Lac du Bonnet Powerview and school trustees.

New Church at Oldenburg Draws Record Attendance

Two days in October brought record turnout to St. Pauls Lutheran Oldenburg with a crowd at the fowl supper in the new church the event raising about 250 dollars. Mission Festival on Sunday featured Rev G Schwind of Steinbach Man and Rev A Hartman with a capacity church and over 50 dollars collected for missions. The choir led by A Hildebrandt performed as Edna Thompson and Mrs Pat Precious played the organ.

Fifty year marriage celebrated at Mazur residence

Winnipeg visitors from multiple families filled Lowland and Allegra homes over the weekend. Anton and wife celebrated their 50th anniversary on October 11 at Joe Molinski’s. A new baby was born October 4 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg to Tony Beigun and Dallas Dumas.

Dr E R Brown Addresses Teachers Convention Beausejour

Dr E R Brown of the Provincial Department of Education told the Beausejour assembly that low birth rates and modern industry inducements weaken teaching recruitment. He urged coordinated federal and provincial action to improve incentives for qualified teachers to fill vacancies, during the Beausejour Teachers of North Eastern Manitoba convention.

Community talk on Wheat Board prices and union growth

Guest speaker Mr. Kawecki discussed Wheat Board and livestock prices. He urged larger union membership and district canvassing. The Seven Sisters Bowling League met at Beausejour alleys on October 20. Team standings show Team 4 leading with 13 points, Team 1 with 11, Teams 2 and 3 with 6. C Precious had the high single game at 285 and the high three game total at 642.

The Ladies Aid of St John s Lutheran church announce a fall and winter film event at Beausejour Town Hall on Wednesday October 23 featuring two religious films Second Chance and Caindhd Able. Two showings at 7 pm and 9 pm invite attendees of all beliefs.

First perfect crib hand seen by longtime player Hillman

George Hillman, after 55 years at cribbage, drew a perfect crib with jack of diamonds five of hearts spades and clubs and cut the five of diamonds to complete it. Opponent Robert Fuller notes a rare twenty-niner among his own hands yet never achieved it. The next evening Hillman and his wife won the top prizes at a whist drive for the Polic Fund.

Obituary for Rudolf Yessie of Beausejour Manitoba

Rudolf Yessie aged 71 of Beausejour Manitoba died at home on October 1 after moving to Canada from Russia in 1914. He is survived by his widow Lydia, two daughters Mrs John Folack of Johnson City New York and Mrs R Aker of Oshawa Ontario, five sons Arthur Beausejour Walter Carunna Ontario Ernest Paul Ignace Ontario and Ervin Vancouver British Columbia, six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Beausejour with H Meertelmeyer officiating and interment followed at Beausejour cemetery. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
