Martyn Patterson and Donna Peterson won the Lac du Bonnet Foods contest at Brandon on October 14 and became Manitoba provincial champions in Foods clubs. They will compete at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in November for the Dominion championship trophy. Mrs. Frank Brown praises their effort and notes the keen Dominion competition while thanking Mary McIntosh for organizing the "Canadians should Eat more Cheese" demonstration.

Lac du Bonnet council seeks provincial road survey approval
At a October 3 meeting the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet asked the government for a special survey of roads in Sec 27 15 11E east of the Winnipeg River with costs borne by the municipality and recovery from landowners. Council discussed ditching and drainage projects for 1950, approved reallocating funds, and read bylaw 539 on boundary changes among Newcombe, Lee River, Crescent Bay, and Lac du Bonnet SDs after notice and no opposing comments.

The Seven Sisters Falls Community club held its annual meeting on Thursday October 12 in the community hall with 29 members present. Officers elected for 1950 51 include Phil Ding Mars as president, Art Krampetz as vice president, Axel Oddleifsson as treasurer, Mrs O Oxholm as secretary, and a social committee list plus teens canteen and magazine involvement. Lunch was served by the social committee.

Beausejour residents enjoyed a hair style show tea and musical program at Town Hall on Thursday October 12. A Hayes opened with piano selections and A Weslak MCed the event outlining the hospital’s progress. Models included Irene Halicki and several ladies. styling by Mrs. F Johnson. Music featured Florence Kalaniuk Laura Bush and G Stebbe with R A Hayes and St Mary’s choir. About 35 dollars was raised for Beausejour Hospital Guild.

Nomination Papers Filed to Fill Two Council Vacancies
Nomination day for the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet filled two council vacancies after Councillors J. Bilan and A. E. J. Davies did not seek re election. Ward II drew three nominees M Drabyk M Hurbatiuk and W Brincheski while Ward III pits L M Anderson against J C Horn. In the village council one vacancy was filled by W J Peterson who was automatically elected and a fourth member will be appointed by the council. J W Peterson was also elected as school trustee for another term.

Financial Assistance Asked For Proposed School Building
Beausejour town council discussed funding a new school with Trustees Horodyski and Kaatz. They considered debentures or a grant, with a grant deemed more likely. Buckmaster 80th Birthday Noted For Manitoba Pioneer
Arthur E. Buckmaster of Lac du Bonnet celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family. A pioneer who arrived circa 1890, he worked in Whitemouth hotels, on the CPR, and helped build Pointe du Bois Pinawa and Great Falls power sites. He retired in 1940 and spent time with son Stanley in Winnipeg and daughter Edith Childe in Beausejour.

At the Whitemouth Hospital Guild meeting on October 10 attendees discussed whether Guilds should become separate Aids with a vote planned for November. Seven Sisters Falls Hospital Guild held its October meeting with Mrs Braund presiding. Secretary-treasurer read minutes and financials showing August and September catered events by Winnipeg Electric Company raised over 400. About 100 Professionals and Business Women club members attended. other events included Young People’s Christian Association and University Women’s Club members with 80 and 35 guests, and School Masters’ club with 110 guests. Lunch was served by Mrs W Raines and Mrs H Leith.
