World of Foodstuffs Notes Wheat Crop Estimates

The United States Department of Agriculture forecasts the year’s wheat crop at 1 011 644 000 bushels, down from 1 031 312 000 last year, with winter wheat at 740 537 000 versus 901 668 000 prior year and the ten year average at 758 821 000. Denmark’s wheat crop is seen at 10 672 000 bushels, 368 000 less than the previous year’s 11 672 000. Italy has bought about 33 300 000 bushels of wheat from Australia outside the International Wheat Agreement.

Final payments on oats and barley pools begin Oct 16

The Canadian Wheat Board will start final payments on the 1949-50 oats and barley pools on October 16. Final payments will be grade based with oats averaging about 19.5 cents per bushel and barley principal grades yielding roughly 44.5 to 47 cents per bushel. The total distribution from both pools is about $42.5 million.
