The Cubs honored Ed and Ruby Sitar for ten years of service with the group. Ed, a longtime leader and Cub Master, received a desk pen clock set. Ruby received a Cub and Scout emblem bearing hassock. The event featured bake sales, pie sales, and local musicians enhancing the evening.
Pastor R G Sedo formerly of Tulsa Oklahoma was formally installed as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church Beausejour in an installation service led by Dr C Olson president of the Central Canada Lutheran Synod. Rev K Keitel district dean was liturgist with attendees from Winnipeg and nearby parishes. After the service church ladies served a German meal at 11 15. He succeeds Rev C E Goos who moved to Trinity Lutheran Ponoka Alberta. Sedo has thirty two years in ministry and has led congregations in Canada and the United States and served as president of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Western Canada for four years. He has sat on the Chicago board of directors.
Rev Sedo of Zion Lutheran Seminary Maywood Illinois and Canadian Lutheran Council director, wed Frieda Mary Minchau in 1938. The couple raised five children, one daughter and four sons, with all but the youngest already married.
The Whitemouth Recreation Commission reports on hockey instruction, new appointments replacing resignations, and expanding community programs. They consider woodworking and leather crafts, form a community band led by Constable Wright, and plan weekly Friday dances at Seven Sisters Canteen. They subsidize uniforms for a Little League team and hockey gear for the Old Timers team.
As of September 1971 the Agassiz School Division plans two open areas at Beausejour and Whitemouth. Only intermediate Grades 4 5 6 will use open areas with regular classrooms available for traditional teaching when needed. Staff expected to teach in open areas will visit nearby divisions for exposure.
The 1970-71 Elementary Volleyball Tournament at Pine Falls drew teams from Lac du Bonnet Beausejour Tyndall Powerview and Pine Falls on November 14. Pine Falls dominated with Darlene Matthews and Debbie Dimock guiding an undefeated run to the girls title while Powerview and Lac du Bonnet met in the boys final after each team had one prior defeat.
Farmers received a questionnaire on the potential Abattoir near Selkirk. The study, with Industry and Commerce, seeks use levels and economics to judge whether such a facility is warranted and will guide future steps.
