Lac du Bonnet Curling Club held a Novelty Bonspiel with finals Sunday evening. Demoline rink Norm Plato Paul Chapman Fay Campbell defeated Ed Broszeit 10-7 to win event one. Event two saw Mel Saunders team beat Phil Stokes 8-7 with Waters aiding. event three went to Randall Foubert 8-1 over Ray Enright. Lac du Bonnet RM Minutes Open Regular Meeting 1971
The Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet held its regular council meeting November 2 1971 with Reeve Zarzecki and six councillors present. Minutes from October meetings were adopted. Delegates sought road brush, tax-sales info, road connections, and open drainage access. Grants approved to Lac du Bonnet Figure Skating Club for 370 and Children’s Aid Society for 50. Reeve authorized travel outside limits for veterinary clinic matters. A three year lease of W1 2 NE1 4 2015-10E to Rudolph Hopke was approved. Ward Two road grading authorized at 700. School notes report November events and student activities. Nine grade and new student D A T tests were administered by Miss Basiuk Mrs Stine and Mr Unfried with results available later. Stormy weather caused early dismissal last Friday while Remembrance Day closed Thursday. Parent Teacher Day set for Monday November 15 gives students another day off. Table Tennis Club has 120 members with a 50 cent fee due by month end to fund new equipment. Yearbook sales reach 138 of 250 quota, bake sale or raffle may be arranged if costs aren’t covered. Sadie Hawkins dance occurred Friday November 12 with corsage prizes.

Hecla Acquisitions Near Complete for Island Park
Tourism Minister Peter Burtniak announced that acquisition of property on Hecla Island for a new provincial park is nearly finished. Initial private purchases began in fall 1969 to enable water based recreation development, with about 89 percent of land area and 60 percent of parcels now owned by the government. Remaining parcels in critical areas were expropriated under the old act, and further expropriations began under the new act to secure additional properties for park facilities.
