Judge George Dr Rafuse and Dr Elliott visited Whitemouth to join the Whitemouth Hospital Board and the Whitemouth District Hospital Aid meeting. A dispute over control of aid funds was discussed with praise for the Women’s Hospital Aids Association. The board noted guild receipts sometimes bore board stamps but funds went to the guild for tax use.
Donald Cameron suffered a broken left leg and possible skull fracture after being struck by an automobile on Saturday night in Tyndall. He walked south on the road at 9 30 pm carrying two bottles of milk when the accident occurred. Driver Mark Peresluka remained at the scene as Cameron was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Demetro Ferens of Broken Head died November 10 at age 72. Funeral at 10 a.m. November 14 at the Greek Catholic church in Ladywood Man with interment in the churchyard cemetery. Survived by wife Annie six sons Mike Winnipeg Erick Toronto William John Pete Neck and four daughters Ada Nesplee Mary Lena Sofie plus brother Paul Ferens of Beausejour. He came to Canada 45 years ago from Austria and settled in Green Oak district as a farmer and church supporter.
Carter Construction superintendent Mauritz Nordien and his wife Clara are leaving Seven Sisters Falls for Sweden. The North Sweden born Nordien, who helped finish the local power plant, plans to sail December 3 from New York aboard the Gripsholm and expects to return in 1950. The community and Winnipeg Electric employees presented travel bags and a pen set, with many offering bon voyage wishes.
A Beausejour Canadian Legion service on Sunday November 13 at the town hall opened with O Canada and the Lords Prayer. The event featured a school choir, poems Lest We Forget and For the Fallen, bugle silences, dual-language addresses, and wreaths laid by legion members for the Beausejour branch, forces, bereaved parents, and the Tyndall branch.
The Remembrance Day service at Memorial hall drew a large crowd including schoolchildren. Rev. S Richardson urged that November 11 be kept sacred and not treated as a normal business day, calling for compulsory observance to honor veterans and sacrifices in the World Wars. He noted the first Canadian-made nylon was produced at a Kingston plant on June 2, 1942.
Beausejour branch of the Canadian Legion discussed securing permanent club rooms at a general meeting held November 8 at W. Splett's home. J. Shuster served as secretary in J. Bellan's absence. others attending included J. Reich, J. McLean, E. Englot, F. Rumak and several members. The group planned to explore space in the Polish Independent church with Ehinger assigned to arrange. a full update is expected by year end. A special meeting will reorganize the branch and elect new officers.
William Lucko and N. J. Stryk Liberal-Progressives won in Springfield and St. Clements respectively. Lucko praised a straight vote for Liberal principles amid Campbell’s coalition and promised to advance his constituency, while Stryk pledged to serve eastern Manitoba with focus on development, roads, fisheries, lumbering, and rural electrification.
A reader from Springfield asks the Leader to renew the subscription for one year, enclosing a payment of $2.00. The note is addressed to the Leader Building in St James, Manitoba.
Lac du Bonnet Home and School association met November 8 with strong attendance. The president noted good proceeds from a card party and Halloween lunch. Santa Claus will visit the December 21 Christmas concert matinee. Corporal Watkins spoke on Child Delinquency, citing needs for activity, love, security, independence, achievement, and self esteem, arguing home strife harms children. He urged earning the youths trust and re integrating them into society. Mrs. Uhlman volunteered to help.
The St. John’s Anglican church Lac du Bonnet invites all to its annual Christmas bazaar on November 24 at the Community hall. It opens at 7 p.m. with a whist drive from 8.30 p.m. Featured are fancy work, home cooking, white elephants, candy for children, doll and bean-jar contests, cake weight guess, a quilt raffle, and a pre bazaar display in Shaw Drug Store. Donations may be left with Mrs. Vic Rowe by November 23. A W A members meeting for final arrangements is planned for November 23 at 7.30 p.m. at Mrs. Frank Brown’s home.
Corporal Watson pledges to obtain information on forming a Cub Pack seen as essential. An R.C.M.P. film is scheduled for presentation in December.
