Agriculture shows marked contrasts in Manitoba farming

Manitoba deputy minister of agriculture Dr. J. R. Bell described two contrasts at the Manitoba Stock Growers' Association convention in Brandon. Field crops revenues will drop 35 to 40 percent from last year, with 1957 crop results possibly the worst in 20 years, while cattle production rose nearly 30 percent since 1951 and is expected to continue. He noted rising farm costs, falling prices, and mechanization driving larger acreages and farm consolidation, urging maximum efficiency and continued development of labor saving cattle feeding and finishing programs.
