Historic Ballanca Air Bus Faces Future Uncertain

The Ballanca Air Bus, now owned by Hooke Air Services of Pickle Crow Ontario, dates from 1934 to 1936 and remains the world’s last flying example. Originally Canadian Pacific Airlines, later Trans-Air, it is flown in summer with a Pratt and Whitney Hornet engine, around 900 HP, and a 35 gallon per hour fuel burn. Landmark aircraft veteran George Fournier of Lac du Bonnet has maintained it since 1946, noting parts shortages and a possible museum future after next season.
