Elderly Housing Units for Pine Falls and Whitemouth

Health minister Rene E. Toupin announced grants totaling 54500 to support new elderly housing in rural Manitoba. Whitemouth will receive 21300 for ten single suites and two dual suites in a 108000 project, while Pine Falls through Pineview Senior Citizens Home Inc will add 18 suites with 33300 from the province toward a 162000 project.

Whitemouth Melody Mixers Hold Achievement Night

The Whitemouth Melody Mixers Home Economics Club hosted Achievement Night on April 28 at White mouth Centennial Hall. Leader Mrs H Nelson and Miss Betty McLaren judged Foods and Home Design with ribbons while Unit A and D showcased demonstrations, selections, and dances. Susan Overberg was chosen for Home Design. Janine Slagman earned a two week summer camp opportunity. eleven new 4-H members received pins. a corsage was presented to Miss McLaren and to Mrs Norman Buss for support.

Lac du Bonnet Collegiate News Growth and events update

The school reports ongoing growth with a new gym planned and ambitions for volleyball and basketball. Track and field day is on Friday May 28 at Pinawa with competitors to be named to Garth Hodge or Mr Nally. Rings were sold through May 7 and hot dog sales were discontinued.

The Agassiz high school track meet will be held at Pinawa on Friday May 28 1971. The elementary schools track meet is set for Friday June 18 1971 at Pinawa.

Lac du Bonnet Curlers Wind Up With Trophy Night

The Lac du Bonnet Curling Club held its windup at Memorial Hall featuring a supper and awards. Abe Giesbrecht awarded Ralf Butchart a plaque and honorary life membership for long service, while W C Hardy honored John Usackis for years of district playdown success. Prizes were listed for Ladies and Men's Grand Aggregates and grouped teams across A B C divisions, with mixed curling also recognized.

Great Falls 4-H Achieves 21st Day At May Rally

The Great Falls 4-H Club held its 21st Achievement Day on May 3 with Miss Betty McLaren judging. Twenty-nine members earned red ribbons for 80 to 100 percent in 29 projects across Unit A to I, with demonstrations by juniors and seniors and awards for six years in 4-H. Ann Parry led a corsage round, mats, and a rally dress revue featured pancho and pant outfits.

Police Week Observed In Manitoba May 9 15

Attorney General Mackling proclaims Police Week May 9 to 15 in Manitoba and backs funding for the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. RCMP detachment flags events with public open house two to six pm, film showings for Cubs and Scouts, displays of uniform and breathalyzer, and a reminder to contact Zenith 50 000 for on duty radio links. The force number seven, Sergeant’s Post, serves Berens River Bloodvein and Little Grand Rapids by air in winter and boats in summer.

Retiring Swan in Canada After 18 Years with Griffith Bros

E E Swanse Swanson retires at 82 after 18 years with Griffith Bros Drilling. He arrived in Canada from Sweden in 1909, worked in rock cuts, then diamond drilling from 1920, and lived for years in The Pas Manitoba. A Sunday farewell included coworkers and a gift watch.
