Portrait of late Dr J M Uhrich presented to Saskatchewan
Mrs Uhrich presented a portrait of the late Dr J M Uhrich to Saskatchewan. The painting by M DeGrandmaison will hang in the legislative building beside other prominent figures. Former cabinet minister, first Minister of Public Health, and later lieutenant governor W J Patterson lauded Uhrich as a Christian gentleman. Uhrich, born in Ontario, taught, practiced medicine, and entered the Saskatchewan legislature in 1921. He served as Liberal representative for Rosthern and held key offices until his death in 1951.

The Broadview School Unit No 18 held March 28 with five members. W H Edwards resigned as Sub-unit 4 trustee. Fourteen teachers resigned effective June 30, 1957. A special April 10 meeting will discuss conveyance issues among districts. Scout Hut to be built on Whitewood grounds with lease approved. G I O to send rep to April meeting on insurance. Buffalo Plain to install new heating plant for fall. Edendale Hollington districts favor conveyance to Grid Road authority. Caretaker salaries urban schools up from July 1 1957. Broadview Corning Kipling Whitewood boards may each spend up to 500 on grounds. 1957 budget set excluding teachers salaries. bill rate unchanged. Secretary and superintendent may seek up to three British teachers for rural schools.

Brooks merchants decide to stay open until 9 p m on Saturdays starting April and continuing weekly after discussion. A prior survey of merchants and a rural shopper poll influenced the plan as rural attitudes were weighed.
