Alberta Man Wins National Barley Championship 1947
James W. Bussey, 28, from eight miles north of Airrie Alberta, won the national barley championship in 1947. The contest, started in 1946 and sponsored by the brewing and malting industries, awarded Bussey $1,000 for first place along with $400 for the Alberta provincial title and $160 for regional win. His entry was a carload of Montcalm barley.
