Price Rise for Binder Twine Tied to Subsidy Cut

Wartime Prices and Trade Board ends subsidy on sisal fibre used in binder twine. Subsidy had kept base price at 4.02 per 100 pounds. unsubsidized fibre costs 10.89 from British East Africa, with other sources 14.00 to 19.00. An immediate 7.50 per 100 pounds rise in manufacturers prices will offset the subsidy removal and higher overheads.
