Wolves Spook Night Traveler Near Lettonia Hall

John Apsit, walking to the post office, shone a flashlight on a timber wolf he mistook for a rock and encountered a second wolf as a pack howled nearby. He reached safety without incident. Later Mrs. O Lagshin reported four timber wolves on the lake shore near Lettonia Hall.

Fifty Chickens Die in Pine Falls Fire

A chicken house owned by Mr. Englehart burned Monday evening at 9 45 p m destroying fifty chickens. Mr and Mrs were away from home when the blaze was first noticed and could not save any birds. Cause of the fire was undetermined at press time.

Pointe Legionnaires Visit Pine Falls Branch

Pine Falls branch of the Canadian Legion hosted a Curling evening for four rinks from Pointe Du Bois. The event featured competitive curling, a social sing along, and a buffet lunch. Rev. Towler led the Pine Falls club with helpers Bill Jackson and Mike Bachynski organizing arrangements.

Seven Sisters Juveniles defeated Pine Falls 5 3 after leading 2 0 and tying 2 2 in the second period. Great Falls tied Pine Falls 4 4, overtime produced a 5 5 draw as Geo Krocher and Bill McDonald refereed. The crowd praised the fast, hard fought game on local ice.

March 15 Fine Date For Gas Refund Claim

Manitoba farmers are urged by Provincial Tax Commissioner R. B. Baillie to file gasoline tax refund claims before March 15. Farmers may submit multiple claims, but refunds for gasoline used in farm machinery in 1946 must be filed by mid March or be forfeited.

Cars Built For King and Queen Visit In South Africa

A special fleet for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth's visit to the Union of South Africa includes seven of thirteen eight cylinder Daimlers. The cars seat eight, feature English ash frames with aluminum panelling, electric roof panel operation, blinds, windows, and interior partition, with concealed smoking and writing requisites in the arm rests.

Horticultural Society At Pine Falls Opens With Promise

About sixty local horticulturalists attended a March 5 meeting in Pine Falls to form a Horticultural Society. T. E. Silver opened the session, J. W. Jackson led officer elections, and R. M Bevan from Manitoba Agriculture spoke on soil formation and best soil use for plant groups.

Beausejour Halts Acklands With 6-2 Victory
