Lac du Bonnet Bantam B's eliminated by Gimli in playoffs

Lac du Bonnet Bantam B's were edged 15 to 10 on aggregate after a 7 to 5 win in Gimli and a prior heavy defeat in Lac du Bonnet. Norm Dancyt opened scoring, Norm Cherrey scored three, but Dancyt left with a shoulder injury as Gimli surged in the second period. Bantam B's bow out but rise to face Pine Falls in finals and may travel to Kenora March 14.

Mrs Heinz Magiera has been hospitalized for several days and is expected home Friday or Saturday. In her absence Mrs Tony Spagnulo cares for the children. Mrs Mike Ladychuk and children are in Winnipeg for a few days and return this weekend. Joy Kaiser and Nadia Doscoch have birthdays on March 5 and 6. Gerry Clouthier, guest of Mr and Mrs Reg McDonald, will leave for Sudbury soon.

Whitemouth curling winners and local notices

Mrs Pearl Stelko and team won first prize in the third event of the novelty bonspiel at Whitemouth defeating the W McGarva rink of Elma in the semi finals and the Cpl R Fraser rink of Whitemouth in the finals. Get well wishes to Grace Proceviat in Winnipeg hospital. Numerous visits and greetings follow from Winnipeg and surrounding towns. Community events include catechism bingo winners, a silver tea for dental clinic, a P T A meeting with films and lunch, and a planned whist drive. Local moves include residents to and from Winnipeg Red Lake and Bissett, with several social and sports notes.

Court totals in Lac du Bonnet juvenile cases

The Lac du Bonnet District Court met on Tuesday February 23 with magistrate H Gyles and Crown Attorney Tf Glowacki. Eleven juvenile cases were heard. two remanded to March 8. Several defendants faced charges including break and enter theft and liquor offences with fines listed for Neskar, English, Pelland, Fontaine, Courchene, and Dufour.

Multiple Liquor and Disturbance Citations in Manitoba Court

Individuals from Fort Alexander Winnipeg Saskatchewan and no fixed addresses faced fines and remands for liquor possession while in a vehicle under highway traffic act and liquor commission rules. Several people were fined for disturbances in public places with varying totals, others remanded to fixed future dates, and one received a one year suspended sentence with bond on theft charges.

Butchart Cops Men’s Open Bonspiel Trophy Race

Butchart Cops Men’s Open Bonspiel title at Lac du Bonnet with 36 rinks. Butchart defeated D. Stupak and his Lac du Bonnet rink 5 to 3 after six ends in the Casey’s Inn Trophy final. Other event winners included Zyloway and Rossmere third, Dale Pembina fourth, Usackis Lac du Bonnet second, and Chapman Lac du Bonnet third in the second event. Banquet Friday night featured catered food by club ladies.

Pine Falls Rossmere rink wins 16th annual bonspiel

Grace Clarke of Winnipeg led the Rossmere rink to victory in the 16th Pine Falls ladies bonspiel held the weekend of February 26. The rink captured the first event and the Pageat Trophy by defeating Verna Eastcott and her team.

Seven Sisters Boys Rally To 9 0 Victory Over Gordon Lake

The Seven Sisters junior boys hockey team defeated Gordon Lake 9 to 0 with Lesley Langner scoring twice and Doug Reid tallying four goals. Doug Krampetz, Brian Reid, and Jim Furth added singles. Harry Pluchinsky earned the shut-out in goal.

Russell Rink Wins Bissett Bonspiel

Russell Rink captured the Men's Open Bonspiel at Bissett with 32 rinks competing. Russell Snrton won the first event Grand Challenge by beating Lloyd Shindruk of Bissett. Hayden-Lack of Lac du Bonnet won third prize in the final. Ed Dulko of Winnipeg won the second event. Mac Magnusson of Bissett took third in the second event. Len Gendre of Bissett won the third event. Ed Adolph of Bissett took third in the final event. A smoker Saturday night drew praise from attendees and caterers.

Whitemouth Reeve Edward Henderson’s Hospital Return Planned

Whitemouth reeve Edward Henderson hopes to be home from hospital in the early part of the week after a pleasant gathering at the pancake roundup in the town hall. The event was sponsored by International Harvester and a film show by Catholic ladies will be held March 12 in Municipal Hall. Mrs. M Becker of Winnipeg visits her sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Maurice Everson, while Miss Margaret Etter of Keenwatin Ontario was guest of Mr and Mrs William Kirby last week.

Legion Plans Theatre Night For Fire Relief

The Royal Canadian Legion Lac du Bonnet Branch 164 plans a theatre night on Wednesday March 10 as a fundraising event for February 20 fire victims. A. Campbell E. Sharkey C. Dawson and Jan Harkness lead the arrangements. Bert Wood reported on standing committees and five new membership applications were approved. Sports grants were allocated to the skating rink swimming club Legion and Lions Club. J Nesper thanked the branch for crests for Pine Falls Curling Playdowns and R Foubert praised Pine Falls hospitality.

Whitemouth Forms Local Fire Brigade

A Whitemouth fire brigade was organized at a Tuesday meeting on March 2 with strong attendance. Lorne Melinski was elected chairman, Jim Thomson named fire chief, and H. E. Cousins and Tom Melnict appointed deputies.
