Sinnott Appeals to Farmers as Election Loop Opens

John S. Sinnott spoke to Manitoba Farmers union delegates in Beausejour urging that Ottawa senders be real farmers. He announced he will not run and urged price controls, wheat agreement scrutiny, and a provincial livestock board while outlining MFU goals and district director elections.

Masons Knights Contest at Pine Falls Golf Tourney

Pine Falls lodge No 154 A F and A M and Norwood council 3538 Knights of Columbus held the first annual Knights of Columbus Mason golf tournament at Pine Falls Saturday June 13. Pine Falls won the Schlinger man trophy accepted by Worship Master Jack Aseltine. A Manitou Lodge dinner followed.

Thalberg baseball games excite district crowd

Three close games on June 14 at Thalberg saw Green Bay beat Thalberg Libau defeat Cromwell and Ladywood overcome Green Oak. A good spectator turnout supported proceeds aimed at promoting district baseball.

Gathering Honors Fiftieth Wedding

The Lutheran ladies aid of Whitemouth gathered at Mrs. John Neva’s Elma home to mark Mr and Mrs Neva’s golden wedding anniversary. They have farmed the district for years. Pastor Harold Parne of Redeemer Lutheran White Mouth offered brief wishes for happiness. Mrs A Hill gave a corsage to Mrs Neva and the ladies’ aid presented a gift.

Lowland MFU Banquet and Dance Features Large Cash Take

The Lowland local 211 of the M F U held its annual banquet and dance with proceeds well above three hundred dollars. Committees worked in unity to ensure success and a list of 24 prize winners included G Kowalki Glenmoor and Laurence Topnick Greenwald among others from Lac du Bonnet Beausejour Allegra and Winnipeg locales.

Appointed District Supervisor for Manitoba Power Commission

Gordon McKinnon was named district supervisor for the Manitoba Power Commission at Lac du Bonnet, succeeding J. Isaacs who moved to Neepawa. A longtime employee, McKinnon began as a lineman in 1949 and has led a major maintenance crew since 1948. He is married with one daughter, Joy, and his wife is a former power commission employee. The McKinnons will move to Lac du Bonnet to take up residence.

Lace Adorned Bride Weds at Gull Lake Home

The bride wore a gown with lace and a long veil held by a seed bead rhinestone headdress. She carried red roses. Matron of honor Mrs Lorra ine Zaiser, sister of the bride, wore blue net with a lace bolero. Bridesmaids were Marge Patzer Mildred Patzer Irma Kirk and Gloria Obaz. Beausejour Student Chosen for United Nations Seminary

At the Brokenhead Agricultural Society meeting in municipal hall on Friday last, John Chalaturnyk urged support for sending a Beausejour school pupil to the United Nations seminary in Winnipeg during July at the University of Manitoba. The society agreed to fund the trip, with Miss J. Chontskiewich as the first student participant, who will report back to peers in the fall when the school reopens.

Four Entrants Compete Queen Crowning Contest

North eastern Manitoba hosts a July 1 queen crowning contest at Beausejour with four entrants Irene Weidman North Susan Kuszek South Rose Ann Tiede East and Edid Jonsson West and Centre. The event features a monster street parade led by the Winnipeg Grenadiers band a state coach floats and diverse likenesses. Also planned are pie eating contests a boxing showcase a platform floor show daredevil motorcycling stunts a wild animal show and donkey baseball while the eastern provincial log saw contest caps the day supervised by Manitoba Paper Co. Ltd. representatives at Pine Falls.

Frank Bedder Jr with his Great Dane Rowdy on water skis appears in a Lac du Bonnet show July 1. He recently set a non stop 228 mile run Memphis to Greenville and challenged 1800 mile Mississippi River route Minneapolis to New Orleans on water skis. The event features speed boat races, an RCAF air show, and a midway as part of Ski Antics of ’53.

MFU Local No 210 Elects Leaders at Annual Meeting

MFU Local No 210 held its annual meeting at Ladywood on Friday June 12 with a good turnout. Head office secretary Mr Golanski attended to show an agriculture movie. Richard Kawecki was elected president and John Ferens vice president for the coming year. Fourteen delegates were appointed to attend the Beausejour convention on June 17.

Obituary for Maria Demeria in Manitoba district

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Demeria were held June 6 1953 at Tyndall United Church with interment in Tyndall cemetery. Russell Funeral Home Beausejour oversaw arrangements. She died at Beausejour hospital and was born in Gladstone Manitoba widow of Thomas Demeria. Survived by two daughters Mrs. L Erickson of Tyndall and Mrs. F Evans of Vancouver and four sons Peter Saskatoon Colin Timberton Gilbert Mackinak and Albert Dauphin Manitoba.

Pine Falls Recreation Meeting Notes and Birth Announcements

The Pine Falls recreation association executive met June 9 at the recreation hall with President W. Macdonald presiding. They discussed the pool opening and other association affairs. Ms Babies registered at Pine Falls hospital. A daughter Dinah Dzidra was born to Mr and Mrs Gunars Ceplis in Pointe du Bois on June 14. A son Lorne Hebert was born to Mr and Mrs S Howe in Pine Falls on June 16. The Pine Falls column will be absent for two weeks due to a holiday starting June 19.
