The wedding at St Theresa’s Rectory June 12 joined Juliette Coulombe and Clifford Patterson. The bride, eldest daughter of the late A Colombe and Mrs. Coulombe, wore nylon net gown with beaded halo veil and carried American Beauty roses. They will reside in Pine Falls.

Beausejour Bride Weds Canadian Mountie at United Church

Jean Ethel Bush and Constable James R. Cunningham wed at the United Church in Beausejour on June 12. Rev Dr McCallum officiated. Guests included RCMP members in scarlet dress. The couple will reside in Selkirk Manitoba with a brief honeymoon to Kenora.

Finest hotel opens at Pine Falls in rural Manitoba

Manitoba Paper Company opens a new Pine Falls hotel built to serve employees and visitors. Seek Share of Gas Tax For Highway Maintenance

Manitoba municipalities in the eastern district will seek a share of the provincial gasoline tax for highway maintenance. The resolution was adopted at the 15th annual convention at Beausejour presented by Transcona. The group also urged removing tax on gasoline used by municipalities in road construction and maintenance. The event featured talks on trunk highways, beautification, budgets, and pay-as-you-go policy. The 1948–49 convention will be in Selkirk with over 103 delegates present.

Beausejour Woman's Institute Ends Season With Recital

The Beausejour W I met at the Beauesjour hotel on Tuesday June 1 at 8 30 pm. The program included O Canada Creed Penny Parade and a pianoforte recital by Mrs Ehinger with pupils Barry Kaatz Vern Pulfer Joyce Tocher Betty Friesen Nancy Neuman Doreen Kielback Charles Kielback and Alvin Hayes. A farewell gift was given to visiting sick convenor Miss Greinke. A lunch followed and the next meeting is set for September 7 at 8 30 pm.

Study Groups Picnic At Great Falls

The Great Falls study group hosted the Seven Sisters at a June picnic on the rocks by the power house. An appetizing supper, singing around a bonfire, mind reading tricks, duets, and stories followed, with thanks given to hosts and a vow to continue the study group next season. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Williams, Oxholm, Lewis, Nelson, Henderson, and others from Seven Sisters.

Badly Burned When Blowtorch Explodes

Sixteen year old Edward Walesiak burned badly when a blowtorch exploded as he moved embers. He had earlier ignited a brush fire with a torch and left it near the flame, causing the device to explode and injure him including loss of hair eyebrows and skin.

Popular couple leave Pine Falls on long trip

Mr and Mrs T Macklin left Pine Falls on June 13 for Toronto then Seattle to visit Mrs Macklins mother for a few months. They plan to return to Manitoba next spring. Before leaving Mrs Macklin was hosted by Mrs M Turner and Mrs W Johanneson. Friends and coworkers gave a car radio at Manitou Lodge lobby.

Farmers Day in Beausejour Promises Big Exhibition

Beausejours Farmers Day and Rural School Field Day set for Wednesday June 16 features Eastern Manitobas largest farm machinery and vehicle exhibit. Prizes include 50 for a paint brush bristle guess, 15 and 10 cash for top tractor displays, plus prizes for big families and a town hall dance with orchestra.

A stag party May 20 at Mr and Mrs J Sikora Milner Ridge honored Frank Ehinger. Friends gave him a fine table lamp. Guests then joined the ladies at H Mykytuik’s home for a joyful evening.

Whitemouth School Field Day Draws Visitors and Keen Competition

The Whitemouth consolidated school held its annual field day on Friday June 4 with Seven Sisters Falls Lonely Dale Darwin and Rennie visiting schools. Events ran from forenoon to afternoon featuring individual novelty races team events and ball games. Mr Erskine the paying teller managed receipts while A Tomlinson of Tomlinson Crowe and Co observed. The weather was favorable and booth committee included Steiner Milbrandt Paulsen Nelson and Milbrandt.

Oldenburg School Tennis Tournament Highlights

At Oldenburg, promising players competed on the school courts. Girls singles saw Louis Judt beat Myra Klepatz 10 8. Wittenberg Pluchinske won girls doubles 6 3. Knopf beat Gordon Klepatz 6 1 in boys singles. Locht Wittenberg defeated Klepatz Werger 6 4 in mixed doubles.
