Pine Falls graduation honors 1953 class with music and awards

Graduation exercises held in the region hall on Friday evening May 29 with G A Stewart presiding. Edward Ford delivered the valedictory as Bernice Martin was named top in Grade 12 and other honors awarded by IOOF and Rebekahs. Guest speaker J Reddit of Imperial Oil offered industry guidance. A high school dance followed.

Powerview Pine Falls Chamber Meets for Regular Session

The Powerview-Pine Falls chamber of commerce held its regular meeting on May 28 with J. H. Par ent presiding. They discussed hosting Manitoba teachers on July 17, arranged lunch funding, accepted a film show by the Bureau of Travel and Publicity for June 17 if available, planned lobbying to push road projects, asked action to protect RCMP drivers, launched a June clean-up, and noted the Winnipeg River bridge is named Hamilton Bridge after MLA R. Hamilton.

Annual Guild Convention Set for June 23

The annual convention of guilds serving Whitemouth hospital is scheduled for June 23. Lady hostesses will be the Seven Sisters Falls guild, with entertainment organized by convenor Mrs. S Meinick and committee members Mrs. H Baker Mrs. D Cramer Mrs. F King and Mrs. B Kuhn.

Seven Sisters Falls Ladies Stage Three Plays Friday

The Seven Sisters Falls ladies church group staged three one act plays on May 29 drawing a good audience. Proceeds totaled 104.65 with Olga Oxholm receiving a bouquet from Mrs. Raines. Cast included Oxholm Howcroft Picard Baker Raines Cramer Gittins King Sandra Oxholm Harriet Picard Jean Walker Brian Hudson Jack Gibbins Fred Oxhalm Stan Gittins. Stan Gittins sang during intermission and lunch followed for cast members.

Mrs Cliff Connor Heads Whitemouth Hospital Guild

April Accidents Double in Manitoba This Year

Manitoba safety analysis reports 22 accidental deaths in April this year, more than double last April’s nine. Home mishaps rise to fourteen with five falls, plus poisonings, drowning, fire, exposure and other causes. Industrial deaths total two, with seventy nine non traffic fatalities year to date.

The Brokenhead Belles sewing club held Achievement Day on Monday evening June 1. Miss J Haig from the department of agriculture was guest speaker. Members received three red nine blue and one white ribbon for their work displayed during the evening. A demonstration on Preparation Before Sewing was given.

Plans are going ahead for the annual Manitoba Farmers Union convention of all locals in District No 10 to be held this year in Beausejour town hall on Wednesday, June 17. Delegates will attend from North Eastern Manitoba with speakers of top ranking importance from outside points.

Lac du Bonnet council approves street and drainage works plan

At a Lac du Bonnet village council meeting R M McIntosh and ten subdivision plan 4923 owners pressed for street improvements amid higher assessments. Council authorized works including gravel and grading across multiple sections, two bridges, a drain project, and a sidewalk on Minnewawa street. Several bylaw changes and tax cancellations followed, with assorted accounts approved and grants under consideration.
