Canadian borrowing in U.S. markets rises sharply in 1956
Canadian borrowers increasingly tap U.S. markets for funds with 1956 US offerings totaling over 5012 million, about 20 percent of the year's total. Major issues include Trans-Canada Pipelines 1st Mortgage bonds, Quebec Hydro, City of Montreal, and Aluminum Company of Canada. Lower U.S. rates and stronger absorption drive this trend despite currency risks and future repayment costs if the Canadian dollar remains weak. Municipal financing activity appears modest with two Ontario cities issuing debentures, while broad bond trading shows general price softness.

A new wildlife species not previously seen in the area was killed Monday morning when Andrew Jacobsen of Tilley shot a groundhog near Lake Newell. The groundhog was shot near the Stanley Benson corral on the east side of the lake. Game Officer Jerry Pelchat sent the specimen to Edmonton for study of its migratory habits.
