More Lights For Lac du Bonnet

Lac du Bonnet village council met July 12 with Mayor Sparman and Councillors Arsenault Mikliechuk and Rowe present. They approved four new street lights to be installed by Winnipeg Electric and formed a committee to study costs for a pump pumphouse and intake at Picnic Point plus a standpipe. The council also agreed to close and transfer a lane to the Province of Manitoba pending reimbursement of village expenses, and set the 1949 assessment roll revision for October 15. One half of Peter Bruder’s taxes on Lot 4 Block 7 Pl 3309 was written off.

Beach sand drive builds Pointe du Bois swimming area

In Pointe du Bois the bath ing beach received its final sand delivery for the season. S. F. Long and Community club volunteers organized the effort, using Hydro trucks to haul sand three miles to the dock. Parents and helpers labored hard revealing a safer spot for children to swim, with plans for future improvements like dress huts and an extended area, possibly earning the beach the nickname Long Beach. Pine Falls Wins Tyndall Baseball Tournament

Pine Falls defeated Beausejour 6 3 to win the Tyndall tournament with a 2 1 final against Beausejour after a day of six teams competing on July 10. Beau Sejour and Pine Falls won early games, Dugald advanced by bye, and Bobby Bond umpired all games. Proceeds supported local sport programs.

Surprise Birthday Visit for Fr. Paradis at Notre Dame

More than 50 parishioners from Notre Dame church paid a surprise visit to St. Anthony's Friary on Sunday July 11 to honor Father E Paradis birthday. Brother Petit led the party with assistance from several ladies and out of town guests Mr and Mrs Mark Wentz of Pinawa attended. A luncheon followed and guests wished Brother Petit a bon voyage before his upcoming vacation.
