Ottawa Parliament balances flag debate with summer recess
The present session is expected to sit through Christmas as PM Pearson faces Conservative pressure to refer the Maple Leaf flag to a joint Senate Commons committee. The plan is to push seven urgent items, including a defence bill and appeals for student loans, while flag debate resumes after recess. Conservatives seek to run interim supply to force an early dissolution, but Pearson aims to finish key measures and wait for 1965 elections.
