A Blue River British Columbia ceremony united Nettie Bodnar and Brian George on June 6 in a white satin gown with a peplumed bodice.

Dr John E Lane, longtime minister born near St Marys Ontario and raised in Manitoba, celebrated 50 years in the ministry with a June 26 pulpit service in Regina at Wascana United. He has served at Pine Falls Swan River Arden Roland Baldur Hartney Stonewall Birtle and now Rosemont and Wascana United churches. He plans to continue serving for another fifty years.

Winnipeg begins rapid progress on 75 mile oil line
The Winnipeg Pipe Line connects Alberta crude to Lake Superior a 75 mile ten inch main line with a Gretna pumping station and a 3.4 mile eight inch takeoff to North Star refinery. Sparling Fowler Co. Ltd. Edmonton leads the contract with Fred Mannix & Co. Calgary partners. The project, owned by Winnipeg Pipe Line Co. Ltd. a new Imperial Oil Manitoba subsidiary, aims to deliver 14 000 barrels daily initially up to 30 000 later. Pipeline is welded by trained crews and buried to plow depth while landowners are compensated for right of way and any damages. Construction moves faster as flood subsides with extra crews and rail transport from Montreal. The line’s end nears the Imperial refinery site as pipe from Glasgow Scotland arrives for assembly. The overall Canadian pipeline boom follows new Alberta oil finds and the world’s largest freshwater tankers will carry oil to Ontario refineries.

Den cross beat Eagle Bay 2 0 while Ladywood defeated Libau 5 1 Thalberg topped Glenfields 5 1 Cromwell trailed by four but beat Greenoak 5 6 in the last inning An All-Star team from the clubs then lost to Beausejour 2 5 in a showcase game

The Canadian Forestry Association and Manitoba Forest Service organized their flying forestry tour for the second year, visiting northern communities from Lac du Bonnet starting June 13. Fire brigade saves summer home in Winnipeg incident
On July 2 the McArthur Falls volunteer fire brigade responded to smoke pouring from the roof of a Winnipeg summer cottage belonging to F. Bender and S. Toker. Mr and Mrs F Johnston raised the alarm. Volunteers with pack pumps and buckets extinguished the blaze with minimal damage.

Funeral services held for young drowning victim
Funeral services for 19 year old Wilfred Marveled Gaybeard were held at Garson United Church on July 5 at 2 p.m. Rev Nelson officiated. Gaybeard drowned accidentally while swimming at the Tyndall Quarries on July 2. He had lived in the area for two years.

The St Johns Day celebration at Lee River hall drew an all time record crowd with more than 300 guests from every district and beyond. Traditional songs and dances lasted late to Fred Dufly orchestra while space limited dancing. John Chulka and Charlie Lagsdin were singled out for their effort.

Manitoba lineman Gayleard remembered by family
Gayleard was a lineman for the Manitoba Telephone System. Besides his mother Mrs Martha Gayleard of Grand Marie Man he is survived by three brothers Henry Alfred and Edward and two sisters Betty and Margaret all at home and a sister Mrs John White of Winnipeg.
