Lac du Bonnet Sports Day A Great Success

Weather cooperated for Lac du Bonnet on July 1 as thousands enjoyed a regatta, boat races, swimming, surf board riding, and aqua sports. Frank Brown and Ken McCuaig organized the regatta with help from Bert Orr and Bill Sherk. awards included sailing, motor boats, and girls and boys swimming. Community volunteers managed crowds, concessions, and the free airplane rides draw.

Retired Sea Captain and Wife Revisit Great Falls

Captain H Nystedt and his wife, after leaving Winnipeg and moving to Vancouver, visited Great Falls during a Manitoba trip. The veteran seaman, nearly 70, captained an emergency Vancouver to Alaska voyage years after retirement while Mrs. Nystedt managed BC Electric Co. restaurant operations during labor shortages. They stayed with J O Jones and were greeted warmly.

Nelson Hinds of Pinawa and Co F Holmgren of Whitemouth, recently moved to the West Coast, have completed a new 42 foot tuna and salmon fishing boat named Albacore, and plan to begin fishing soon.

Tuna boat built at Esquimalt for fishing off shore

An 11 foot V bottom tuna boat designed by William Atkin and powered by a GM marine engine was launched at Esquimalt Naval Dry Dock after four and a half months of work. The crew built the hull themselves and hope to someday join others on a trip.

Pioneers Celebrate Golden Wedding in Lac du Bonnet

In Siver land Hall Lac du Bonnet on June 29 a large gathering marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. A N Haavisto pioneers who came from Finland to Canada in 1904. Sons and daughters, grandchildren and relatives joined a colorful celebration with a mock wedding skit, songs, dancing, and gifts.
