Camp Weather Mars Lions July 1st parade drenched by rain

Rain for over three hours dampened Dominion Day plans for Lac du Bonnet Lions Club. Despite wet conditions the parade of drenched floats and paper bicycles opened at 11 30. Winners included Boy Scouts and Solnes Corner Store for floats, Allan Cherrey Glen Crook Alison Foubert Bruce Brincheski Lola Tinant for decorated bikes, with ballpark events postponed and indoor activities continuing.

French Ambassador Visits Manitoba Newsprint Plant Tour

A high level party led by French Ambassador Leduke toured Manitoba paper facilities from Pine Falls to Lac du Bonnet and Pinawa. The group, including Sterling Lyon and local officials, praised town planning and efficiency while visiting Manitoba Paper Company mills and the Lac du Bonnet area.

French Ambassador Tours Eastern Manitoba with Dignitaries

The French Ambassador to Canada Francois LeDuke and Mrs LeDuke, with consul Damien Giordani, spent a day visiting Eastern Manitoba. The tour began in Selkirk with a flight over beach areas and Bissett to the north.

LAC DU BONNET Awards At Elementary School Ceremony

Parents and children gathered for Award Day on Monday June 28 at the elementary school basement. Students received awards across grades with recitations, solos, honour rolls, and book prizes. Slogan Named To F. and D. Committee

The Food and Drug Committee of the House of Commons, formed after the Thalidomide tragedy, will inspect drug safety and costs. Dr. Joe Slogan, MP for Springfield, rejoined the committee as it prepares cost-cutting recommendations and stronger inspection measures.

Reg Dowson Wins Safety Patrol Award at Lac du Bonnet

Reginald Dowson a grade eight student at Lac du Bonnet Elementary was named the most outstanding patrol boy of the year and received a plaque and a small statue. The June 28 award day honored his safety efforts with support from principal Mr L Brown and donor Mr E McLeod. The patrol staff included Captain Reg Dawson and lieutenants Dennis Kaprawy and Pat Hampshire. Trips to Russia Canada hockey game Ice Capades and Brooklyn Speedway were funded by Beaver Lumber McLeod's Store Woron's Garage Lavoie Motors and Augustine Bros.

Canoe Trip and Luther League Workshop Planned

A canoe trip down Whiteshell River from Caddy Lake to Betula Lake is planned between July 4 and 7 led by Allan Urban Robert Nilsson Bob Somnes Eddie Griffith Bruce Arthur and Pastor Bowen. A Luther League Workshop runs July 9 to 12 with sessions at 6:00 p.m. and the group includes William Harbig Bruce Sander Jane Walline and Sylvia Blair. a potluck for families is set for Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Seat belt use urged for all highway and town driving

Officials remind drivers to fasten seat belts at all times whether on highways or in town. An unfastened belt offers no protection and increases injury risk in crashes.

Lakeview Hotel changes hands to Ray Enright

Lac du Bonnet announces Lakeview Hotel is under new management as Ray Enright purchases from Community Hotels effective July 1 1965. Negotiations concluded June 30. Plans include an expansion to add a southern beverage room and a modern restaurant. Enright brings extensive hotel experience from New Richmond Sheridan and a 11 year tenure at Lakeview.

Moose Appraises Subdivision Roads in Laz du Bonnet

Mr Ed Sitar of the Laz du Bonnet south subdivision reports a moose acting as a new road inspector. The creature appeared about 6 00 am near his home and wandered the road, temporarily retreating to the brush when insects drive it away. No season on moose.

Pinawa Lions Hold Busy June Events and Install New Officers

The Pinawa Lions attended a Zone Barbecue at Colmers Park hosted by Beausejour Lions with Lac du Bonnet and East Kildonan clubs. A June 23 dinner meeting installed the new 1965/66 officers led by President Barry Banks and President-Elect Bill Kozyra, with a full slate of directors and officers.
