ST ATHANASE Quebec The discovery of a gold mine near St Athanase in Kamouraska County was investigated by Quebec Mines Department officials. Chemical tests showed the mine yielded 20 percent uriferous mineral per ton. Further research work will continue in the spring.
A hostel on Sherbrooke Street in Montreal will house about 50 war brides during stopovers on their journeys west. Scheduled to open February 1, the facility, formerly a merchant navy officers club, is run by the Montreal Red Cross Society.

Crescent Bay funeral services for Richard Sellers will be held at Clark Leatherdale on Wednesday January 30 at 1 15 p m. He died at Deer Lodge Hospital and served in three wars with the Imperial Army in Sudan and the South African campaigns and as regimental sergeant major in the Canadian Army in 1914 18. An early Crescent Bay settler he is survived by his wife four sons and a stepson with three sons in active service during the war. two were prisoners in Hong Kong. Burial in the soldiers plot at Brookside cemetery.
Lac du Bonnet foursome skipped by Jack Park won The Springfield Leader Trophy after an 11 7 final over Bissett. Beav er Lumber Pine Falls and other clubs competed, with Pinawa edging Seven Sisters 13 12 in a thrilling Winnipeg Electric Event.
