The Lac du Bonnet Branch No. 164 Canadian Legion was formally installed on February 14 as the charter was presented. Officers include President S. A. Tomlinson, 1st Vice President Chas. Russell, 2nd Vice President M. W. Torrance, Sgt. at Arms W. S. Kennard, Branch Chaplain Rev. S. Richardson, secretary-treasurer E. Costes, and an executive committee. A reception followed with refreshments provided by local members.
McKenzie Island residents C Wendeborn and Mike Stastook visit his parents in Ontario. Anthony Nowicki returns from overseas for a short leave with his parents before Calgary. Peter Martin arrives Feb 11 to visit his parents. A Fargo to Kenora plane forced to land near town due to engine trouble, pilot and passenger depart after stunt show. Winnipeg visitors include Rev Father J Zimmerman and others. Mrs G Proceviat and daughter Joyce travel to Armstrong Ontario.
Lac du Bonnet figures highlighted by men's and ladies rinks competing in the Winnipeg Spiel with strong showings though not reaching jewellery brackets. Visiting teams from Pointe du Bois and two Lac du Bonnet ladies rinks hosted by Pointe. Whitemouth curling history noted with two rinks playing friendly games February 10. Community events include Marjorie Ann Tomlinson birthday party on February 8 and a Board of Trade meeting February 24 at the Municipal Hall. Weather hopes for above zero ahead of Pine Falls Carnival.
A Red Cross Valentine dance in Pommspunity drew a crowd Saturday February 16 despite heavy snowfall and cold weather. Blythe Reid Lorraine Shew Hectorine LeVasseur and Shirley Dillabaugh braved the elements for a weekend at home. many others stayed indoors as news from the city was sparse.
The Pine Falls and District Overseas Cigarette Fund held its final meeting on February 10. Officers listed include Don McCulloch as chairman J Hammerstedt vice chairman Wm Hibert secretary and H Halpin treasurer. Total contributions reached 1136 07 with expenditures of 1087 88 funding 326 400 cigarettes for service members in Germany Italy Sicily India Holland France Belgium England and Scotland. Remaining funds go to the Canadian Legion Special Command to aid local hospitalized troops at Deer Lodge.
Parish events list Masses for children and high Mass on Sunday at Lac du Bonnet. Catechism sessions for grades, singing for girls, benediction, and evening prayer. Weekday instruction by Rev Louis Lahaie covers grades 1 to IX. Church of England at Fort Alexander holds Sunday services and midweek prayer meetings led by Rev W H J Walter.
Whitemouth United Church announces regular services every Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday School is held at 2 p.m. prior to worship.
St. John's Church Lac du Bonnet holds services on the second and fourth Sundays each month with Sunday School every Sunday. St. Mary's Church Pointe du Bois offers services on the first and third Sundays with Sunday School at 10.00 a.m. each Sunday.
Pine Falls Local 449 of the International Association of Machinists held a February 8 dance at Chateau Hall honoring returning servicemen. About 30 members and guests enjoyed continuous music, a buffet supper, and tributes to ten honored guests and Flight Lieutenant Tom Robinson who died in service.
Sunday services listed include 11 00 a m morning prayer and 7 00 p m evening prayer with Rev E K Bissell Th G incumbent. Notice invites girls aged 11 to 16 to form a Girl Guide Troop Thursday at 8 30 p m all girls welcome and encouraged to attend.
Sunday service at 11.00 a.m. Holy Communion and Sermon with a 2.30 p.m. Sunday School and a 7.00 p.m. Evening Prayer and Sermon. Weekday activities include Wednesdays 8.00 p.m. Young Peoples Club Thursdays 7.30 p.m. Choir Practice. First Monday monthly W.A. 3.30 p.m.
The Home and School Association met in Municipal Hall on February 11 with Mrs. Brown presiding. A paper on the founding of the group was read, marking Founders Day. Mr. J Marshall outlined Manitoba’s four stage health plan including local Health Units headed by a Medical Director with nurses and inspectors, funded two thirds by the Province and one third by municipalities.
Mr Marshall outlined Manitoba Health Plan funding for diagnostic facilities hospital areas and districts and municipal doctor costs. He urged school health training and community use of schools with examples of local remodels. The meeting closed with refreshments and a reminder for March 11.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Lysecki of Elma Manitoba marked their golden wedding anniversary on February 15 after moving from Poland to Canada half a millennium ago They homesteaded at Ladywood and later settled in Elma Their family includes three sons two grandsons and thirteen grandchildren one grandson Flight Lieutenant Ted Zadworny died in service Daughters live in Filma Ituna Saskatchewan and Prince Rupert BC Sons are Jacob J John E of Winnipeg and Michael E now in the United States

Birth announcement for a baby girl at Pine Falls hospital on February 8. Deer visit Slave Falls kitchen trough feeding noted.
Seven school curling teams led by skips Bea Tomlinson Irene Parks Bill Peterson George Brown Farrel Le Vasseur John Cederlund and Mr Mroz compete at Lac du Bennet. On February 9 George Brown beat Bea Tomlinson with Ted Henley third while John Cederlund defeated Farrell Le Vasseur Albert Pichard third. Bill Peterson with Audrey Bjork third beat Irene Parks at 11 00 a m Irene laughed and said she loves curling even when she loses.
The Pine Falls Ice Carnival nears its Opening March as Irene Lidstone leads the Queen vote with 2877 ballots to Marian McCulloch 2564 and Jennie Coulombe 1294. Roy Perry promises a satin smooth ice surface and flawless amplification for the show with visiting stars Shirley Craven and others.
Mr and Mrs P Metzler spent days in Winnipeg greeting Metzler's brother who returned from overseas. Mrs Sam Baker and Curtis of Plumas visited Great Falls. Mr and Mrs H M Battram returned from Pinawa after Harvey replaced Wentz in Winnipeg. Sam Baker's tractor train has made four round trips to the mines and left Feb 13 for its fifth.
