Powerview council held a special meeting on February 10 to seek Department of Public Works funding for 1953 road repairs and gravelling on Art Ave Laura St and Church Ave. The resolution requests a $1000 grant for 1953 and asks oiling of No 11 Highway to reduce dust and improve safety. It also calls for an immediate survey from the new Winnipeg River bridge southward to connect to the Grande Prairie Stead Road, via Art Ave to the village limit, with a two mile extension to complete a connecting road, to be done in 1953.
Pine Falls awaits the fifth annual Paper Town bonspiel on February 20 to 22 with 64 entries filled by December 18. Teams include last year’s winner W Forrester of Emerson competing for 1400 in prizes, top prize a set of four pump action shotguns, as Pine Falls women curlers prep for 32 entries and 600 in prizes next week.
The christening of Gregory Kirk Patterson took place on January 31 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Steiner with Rev. William Hennig officiating. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. George Steiner on a son born recently at Whitemouth hospital. Randy Melnick celebrated his fourth birthday on Wednesday with a cake for friends.
The seventh annual North Eastern Manitoba bonspiel concluded at Lac du Bonnet with 16 rinks from eight clubs. Final night saw three event finals. Springfield Leader Trophy won by Jimmy Laurie’s Pointe du Bois rink over Homer Thompson’s Pine Falls quartet.

Tyndall ladies club met February 11 at Mrs A Anderson home with plans for their annual silver tea and sale.

Proceeds amounting to nearly three iron lungs were raised as music by Leslie Kirby and the Kirby family from Kenora filled the hall with polkas minuets waltzes schottisches and classic square dances.
