Parks Projects For Winter Work

Tourism and Recreation Minister Peter Burtniak announced Manitoba winter works capital projects totaling 1 322 400 to expand campgrounds and improve parks. About 300 jobs will be created next year as work proceeds under parks branch direction, aiding unemployed residents in nearby communities.

Bridge program of 380000 funds urgent road upgrade

Public Works and Highways Minister Joseph Borowski announced an immediate 380000 bridge improvement program on several Provincial Roads. Plans include replacing the washed out P.R. 252 bridge over Stony Creek, a new P.R. 366 bridge over East Favel River, a Ga rioch Creek span on P.R. 278, a P.R. 265 crossing over Ble Grass, and a P.R. 269 bridge over the North Fork River replacing an undersized structure.

Whitemouth Recreation Commission Plans Hockey Nets Snowblower Help

On January 13 the Whitemouth Recreation Commission discussed funding for hockey goal nets and a snowblower for the skating rink. They considered starting a Boy Scout group with District Commissioner Irvin Grabke aiding, plus potential Cubs and Brownies. Parents will be invited to a screening and Q&A on Scout work.

Premier Schreyer Declares February Heart Month in Manitoba

Manitoba Premier Ed Schreyer designated February as Heart Month and urged citizens to support the Heart Fund with gifts and volunteer service. The Manitoba Heart Foundation reported $177,000 raised in Greater Winnipeg last year and spent over $179,000 on research and education to combat heart disease.
