United Church Holds Meetings in Pine Falls

The Pine Falls United Church held its annual congregational meeting on Monday January 25 with reports from all groups. New trustees and session members were welcomed and officers thanked. UCW units held first meetings of the year focusing on Trinidad and Brazil mission studies. February UCW meeting set for February 15 at Mrs. D Cutten's home with planned study approach.

Man Found Dead on Pine Falls Highway

Joseph Stanley Twoheart of Fort Alexander was found dead on the Pine Falls highway at 12 07 a m January 30 from a brain hemorrhage RCMP said. A preliminary inquest is complete and Arthur Wilfred Kent of Fort Alexander Indian Reserve is held on a coroner s warrant in connection with the death. Twoheart, 35, died after a fistfight at a reserve party near Pine Falls.

Pinawa Rink Captures North Eastern Bonspiel Titles

Alex Robertson and his Pinawa rink won the Men's North Eastern Bonspiel main event in Lac du Bonnet defeating E Doucette of Pine Falls 8 5. Beaver Lumber Trophy went to Don Stupack Quong and Bazil Ewens of Lac du Bonnet after a 12 2 lead over Nesper Rummery Lucko and Smith. Baldur Holm of Lac du Bonnet edged E Waschke from Pinawa to claim Lakeview Hotel trophy. Curlers enjoyed a social and buffet supper while reviewing last year’s MacDonald Brier playoffs and renewing curling ties with area clubs and Pinawa newcomers.

Legion Elects Bert Wood Leader At Lac du Bonnet Meeting

Bert Wood was elected president of Lac du Bonnet Royal Canadian Legion Branch No 164 at the January 26 meeting in the Legion Hall. Comrade R Blondahl installed officers. high officers named include Vic David, Ian Harkne, Mrs Ethel David, C Dawson, V Hardy, F Ehinger, R Waters and E Sharkey. The ladies auxiliary donated for sports. The midgets beat Pine Falls 8 4, and the legion curling team won zone playdowns to attend district finals in Lac du Bonnet February 6 with provincial finals February 19 21 in Pine Falls. Provincial winners advance to Drummondville Quebec for Dominion finals. Social evening followed with lunch by the auxiliary.

Whitemouth Deacon Elected at Lutheran Church Meeting

Fred Klapprat was elected deacon at the Whitemouth Redeemer Lutheran Church annual meeting held January 18. Pastor A Eppler conducted. Officers named include Q A Braun trustee Verne Schatkowsky secretary Henry Steiner treasurer. Board members are Robert Honke Walter Steiner and Harvey Endler.

Mr R M Smith was re elected chairman of the scout guide cub brownies parents group at their annual meeting on January 26 in the Elementary school. The standing committee will serve another year with one vacancy filled by Mrs G Unsworth. Other members include Mrs P Kingston secretary Mr D Graham treasurer Mrs M Weeks Mrs S McConnachie Mr W Litvinski Mr B Jones and Mr I Striemer.

Mrs. G. M. Hay was elected president of the Ross United Church Women at their annual meeting held at Mrs. Buss ore home on Thursday January. Elected were Mrs. Norman Buss vice president Mrs. D. M. Fair Attendance At White Mouth Consolidated School Meeting

Large turnout at White Mouth Consolidated SD 139 annual meeting in the school auditorium. Lorne Molinski chaired. Ruth Malkoske reelected secretary. Rudy Noel wins three year term. Mike Hay a two year term. Edward Malkoske lauded the year's work as William Schultz presented a $43,362.55 receipts and $34,548.60 payments report with $8,813.95 cash balance. Andrew Henderson did not seek re election after eleven years on the board. Erskine, with Henderson previously, praised his trusteeship and support for teachers and students.

Seven Sisters Wins Zone 2 Curling Playdowns Final

Seven Sisters rink skipped by Gordon Klaprat defeated J Usackis of Lac du Bonnet 6 to 3 in a tight Zone 2 final at Pinawa after a double knock-out format. Teammates were Ken King Ian Ross and Tom Picard. Usackis skipped by Glen Butchart Bob Lesko and Andy Usackis.

Two Injured In Lac du Bonnet Highway Crash

Two people were injured in a car accident on Highway No 11 about 1:35 a.m. January 3rd, one mile east of Lac du Bonnet. Vehicles were driven by Walter Worona and Max Duchinski of Lac du Bonnet. Mrs Worona sustained abrasions while Duchinski received treatment at a local hospital and was released.

Arrangements for Pinawa resident minister planned

At the Pinawa Christian Fellowship annual meeting held January 24 at 8 00 p m in the school, arrangements for a resident minister were planned. Progress over the past year was reviewed, and the 1965 budget presented. A twelve member committee was elected for 1965 including six denomination representatives Mrs A Jones Baptist Mrs D Robert ManstArightien Mrs S Bjornson Lutheran Mr P Thiessen Mennonite Mr J Guthrie Presbyterian Mr J Putnam United Church.

The Lac du Bonnet Home and School Association announces that G Davies assistant deputy minister of education will speak at the meeting on Tuesday February 9. The address will cover the new curriculum and its changes. Attendees should come Tuesday at 8 00 p m in the Collegiate auditorium.

Pine Falls Hospital Auxiliary Holds January Meeting

The Pine Falls General Hospital Auxiliary met in the former staff sitting room on the second floor with fourteen members present. They planned a terry cloth slipper bee for February 8 and discussed magazines stands for the new wing, with thanks extended to donors and organizers.

Seven Sisters hockey wins over Great Falls 10 to 3

The Seven Sisters senior boys hockey team hosted Great Falls on Tuesday January 26 and won 10 to 3. Randy Melnick was the Seven Sisters goalkeeper. Earlier, on Sunday January 24 the Seven Sisters 14 and under team beat River Hills 3 to 0 with Murray Lawrence Doug Reid and Dave Primmett scoring. Harry Pluchinski posted the shutout for Seven Sisters.

Parents Briefed On Sex Education at Notre Dame Church

Parents of children gathered in the Notre Dame Church basement on Wednesday January 20 to hear Selkirk Health Unit members discuss How to Teach Sex to Children. Dr J B Cramp Miss K Emmons and nurses led a three film session on family responses to questions from young children and urged truthful dialogue before dating.

Teens Pack Recreation Hall in Great Falls

Four hundred teens packed the Recreation Centre on Saturday January 30 as Bob Burns of J.V. Fame hosted the event. Burns acted as MC and disc jockey while the Roadents from Powerview performed during intermission. Officials credited the canteen organizers and praised the well behaved crowd with no incidents.

River Hills Community Notices From Manitoba Farm Union Event

The Manitoba farmers union will hold a basket social on Monday February 15 at 8 PM at the River Hills school with games entertainment and lunch. Ernie Klaprat was a patient at Whitemouth hospital last week and is home now. Elsie Bendereiter visited her parents in River Hills while employed in Winnipeg. Bobby Bendereiter remains at Whitemouth hospital. Henry Hill of California is visiting after a stroke. Barry John Keeley baptized at St Pauls Lutheran on January 24. Whitemouth Collegiate bonspiel began January 29 with local youth participating. Mrs Elsie Henke of Winnipeg died last week, many friends here. Red Cross Elects Officers at Lac du Bonnet Meeting

Wm LeBlanc assistant Red Cross official spoke at Lac du Bonnet on the Manitoba division work. New officers elected include D G Cronk president and A Hayden-Lick vice president. March funds campaign announced and a delegate to the Red Cross council was proposed with the president to serve if possible.
