The Trail Rangers held a December 21 Christmas party at United Church club rooms. Scouts enjoyed a scavenger hunt, games, and a visit from Santa who shared a life story before cocoa mishap. Milky cocoa aside, cakes and cookies circulated as a short dance ended the evening.
Two former Edson School pupils, Walter Fowler and Tom Fowler Sr., have offered scholarships to Edson students. The Fowler scholarships will support local students at the Edson School, reflecting the donors' commitment to education.
Ten Pin Bowling League event at Chateau Bowling Alleys on Thursday December 19 drew players and fans with six flights of competition. Winners across flights include C Frederick, J Dean, R Munsie, A Anderson, D McCullough, G Beaulieu, J Munsie, I Kolesnick, Jerry Sharpe, K Krueger, D Munroe, and R Gretsinger. Handicap totals based on three games. turkey draw prizes awarded to N Caufield, W B Bird, Ben van Malsen. low scorer Joe Martin of Lac du Bonnet.
The Pine Falls Sunday Evening Club held a sleigh ride on December 14, starting from the United Church Clubrooms. Mr Ken Mackie provided the sleigh. The group, numbering twenty after late arrivals, faced a brief loss on the trail and returned to the church. After lunch, well enjoyed, the gathering sang Auld Lang Syne at midnight.
At Ripley Ontario a mumps outbreak among 15 pupils at a continuation school prompted concern. Teacher Albert Wylds then contracted the disease, and the issue was shelved while officials and staff addressed the situation.
Poem by Gemmill hopes for a kinder year in 1947. It recalls past shame and calls to end hate and death. The verse wishes faith hope and honest toil be rewarded with peace and brotherhood guiding all.
Results from the Novelty Bonspiel at Pine Falls announced Friday December 20 crown Grand Challenge winner J B Lalonde skip with W Crawford third Ann Crawford second and Mrs H Brown lead. Consolation winner Don McCulloch skip Mel Huesby third Mrs G Stewart second Tommy McLeod lead. In final end Don McCulloch drew to center to steal the end and upset Jim Lyon who led before the guard rocks failed to hold.
Beausejour resident Mrs. M. Peltz was critically injured when kicked and trampled by a horse on December 20 while feeding in the stable. She later improved to good condition. Miss Vi Blaker injured her ankle at Tyndall station on December 23 and was taken to hospital. S. Filipowicz broke a leg after sleigh mishap near Elma on Boxing Day. A different rider was dragged when his horses ran away, suffering bruises and a sprained ankle. Lac du Bonnet reports cold season illnesses with several people sick. W. D. Halliday cracked a rib after slipping on a sidewalk.
The Pointe du Bois seniors held their annual Christmas party on December 19. Teachers provided all food and prizes. Games included sardines snowshoeing pin the beard on Santa Claus and memory test. A Pie Eating Contest awarded a box of chocolates. Several former students returned for the holidays and Gilbert Heseltine attended as a Christmas visitor.
Sammy Tomlinson Jr of Lac Du Bonnet, the town’s sole Royal Canadian Navy representative, was sworn in November 1945 and served aboard H.M.C.S. Naden Stadacona and Warrior. The ship sailed Atlantic cruises to Bermuda Kingston Jamaica Panama Canal Acapulco San Diego and Esquimalt before 28 days leave at home in Winnipeg for Christmas. He plans to return to his ship January 19 in Winnipeg.
Funeral services for Mrs. F. Horsley 66 of Tyndall were at Bardal Funeral Chapel. She died after a stroke while recovering from a broken hip from a fall. Survived by husband Fred and two sons Percy and Fred. Interred at Brookside cemetery.
