Newcombe School District Sale Nets Notable Funds

Ladies of the Newcombe School District reported a successful dance and handi craft sale aided by fair weather. The Christmas Stocking Fund raised about one hundred dollars. special thanks extend to Mr. Duffy for auctioneering.

Albert Karklin and Ann Balondi joined in marriage as locals extend best wishes to the couple. School Daze in Pine Falls

The Senior Girls of the United Church held a bazaar on Saturday December 14 featuring tea cloths, plastic aprons, baby clothes and shell jewelry. Raffles included cakes and a doll name guessing game won by Mrs. Foster Brown, who guessed Carol Thibodeau was the doll’s name. Tea served at 3.30 drew appreciation. thanks extended to assisting ladies.

November 3 ceremony at Carlton Street United Church Toronto united Miss Lydia McGregor daughter of Mrs M McGregor and Mr M Brown son of Mr and Mrs Forster Brown Pine Falls. Sinnott Motors opens with gala turnout and cinema

Sinnoff Garage officially opened to over 500 visitors from town and beyond on Monday December 16 in a grand opening. The ceremony featured technicolor movies from Canadian Oils Ltd Breen Motors Ltd and the J I Case Co Inc. White Rose entertainers handed out roses to women. A snappy orchestra provided dancing and a reception with beverages. Welcoming remarks were delivered by J Brown for Canadian Oils and Deve Maxim for Breene Limited, with representatives from J J Keddy Co J L Case Co and the Trad- showing support.

Fire in Lac du Bonnet hall risks Christmas events

Fire broke out in the floor under a furnace at the Lac du Bonnet Community Hall on a Tuesday evening as classes were in session. Principal E Mroz summoned help. Jim Russell used an axe to vent the blaze until Forestry and M G A staff and others arrived with chemical extinguishers. The fire caused little damage and the town pursued lessons and a Christmas program the next days. The incident underscored that rapid alarm via local telephone and quick response are vital to control fires.

Lac Du Bonnet Child Injured by Automobile

A seven year old Lac Du Bonnet girl Valerie Kemplein was struck and dragged by a light delivery truck driven by Mr Brend of Seven Sisters while crossing near the highway on the way to a school Christmas concert. Her parents accompanied her as they moved toward the hall.

Little girl Valerie injured in truck accident

Valerie was run over by a truck wheel but escaped serious harm. She received an examination from Dr Sneath, then X rays at Pine Falls hospital. Confined to bed at home, she faces a lengthy recovery around Christmas. Friends are hoped to visit to lift her spirits.

Pioneering Lac du Bonnet matriarch Eugenie Letain dies at 81

Eugenie Letain widow of J B Letain died at her Lac du Bonnet home Friday evening December 20 after a stroke. Born in Belgium in 1868 she came to Canada 53 years ago, farmed west then moved to Whitemouth and Lac du Bonnet with the railroad in 1900. Funeral at Notre Dame Church December 24 at 10:80 a.m. burial Lac du Bonnet Cemetery. Survived by four sons Jules Kenora Rene Sioux Lookout Vital Winnipeg and Mrs Gus Wickman Lac du Bonnet, plus 26 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Renghaw Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Bazaar and Silver Tea Draw Large Crowds in Pine Falls

Mrs H Hutchison and her United Church Sunday School senior girls staged a bazaar and silver tea on Saturday afternoon December 14 in the church club rooms Pine Falls Wy. The event drew a near capacity crowd of gift buyers. Irene Lidstone and class president Alice Bruter opened the safe at 3 pm. The display featured handwork, shell jewelry, luncheon cloths, aprons knitted wear and home made sweets. Art studies by Koth Roy and John Bayly highlighted the offerings. Carol Thibodeau won the cake draw and Carol loaned the winning doll to the doll naming contest judged by Mrs Foster Brown.
