Legion Elects New Officers At Beausejour

The Beausejour legion held its annual meeting on December 14 electing J. McLean as honorary president F. Burmmak as president G Hoban as vice president J. Cheap as secretary treasurer J E Shelson as auditor G Kaatz as sergeant at arms J Shuster R E Emberley and G Holowinskd were elected to the executive and R E Emberley G Hoban J DeMarco to memorial committee representatives The group pledged strong support for the Beausejour Memorial arena project and to boost membership.

Wolf Cubs And Boy Scouts Forming In Lac du Bonnet

Lac du Bonnet organizers report strong support for forming a Scout Troop for ages 12 to 18 at the school meeting on December 15. Cpl J J Watkins will provide details and invites interested volunteers to join. Next meeting postponed to early New Year for good attendance. Repetition of Donora smog urged to be avoided by new electric eye detecting devices tested by railroads and plants.

Pointe du Bois Men Honoured On Retirement

Pointe du Bois Community club hosted a retirement party in the Community hall for John Rosen Kay Wengel and their spouses on December 5. Sanger city hydro official praised the honourees and gifts were presented by local workers and community members. Out of town guests from Winnipeg joined the celebration with relatives and a Lac du Bonnet pastor in attendance.

Pioneer Woman Doctor Made Western Canada First

Dr. Charlotte Ross first woman to practice medicine in Western Canada under Manitoba Legislature. Born Darlington England July 15 1843, she moved to Canada at age five with Joseph and [unnamed] Whitehead family. educated in Clinton Ontario then pursued medical training.

Drewry Hosts Eastern Manitoba Chamber Event in Winnipeg

Roxy Hamilton MLA urged persistent civic effort for East Manitoba resource development during address to about sixty five Associated Chambers of Commerce members from Pine Falls Lac du Bonnet Whitemouth Elma Beausejour and Grand Beach at Drewry's auditorium Winnipeg. The tour included plant visit and buffet lunch with Drewry's management and a list of attendees from Beausejour Whitemouth Grand Beach Winnipeg Hazelglen and Springfield districts.

Lac du Bonnet Fire Destroys Demeria Home

Fire destroyed the Demeria residence on Fourth Street on Friday night December 16 around 7 30 p m. Neighbors raised the alarm but limited water hampered efforts to save the house and its furniture. A small water supply from the school and pump hose from the Forestry Service saved adjacent properties but the home was a total loss. Frank Demeria was not at home and the cause of the blaze is unknown.

War Memorial Committee Elects New Officers

The Beausejour-Brokenhead War Memorial Committee elected officers for 1949 50 at the Beausejour hotel on December 16. President A Larson was re elected by acclamation with G V Towle as vice president, Mrs T Donahoe as secretary, and L J Pulfer as treasurer. A resignation from W W Childe was noted due to workload. A fundraising committee was formed and Fred Rumak offered two sweaters for the Rink Patrol corps. The secretary will seek benefit events from local groups to support the Rink Building fund.

Beausejour C of C Chooses Committees For 1950

Beausejour Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting last Monday and set aside most business to discuss hospital project progress with Reeve F Small and Reeve E Wojciechowski plus Gordon James from the Hospital board. Committees named include War Memorial, tourist and industrial development, highways, publicity, membership and more. Plans for a winter carnival were deferred pending Beausejour Memorial Fund approval.
