Special Courses Slated For Teachers of French
Hon. George Johnson reports the province will fund two 20 week training programs for teachers of French at elementary levels. One for Conversational French for English speaking pupils at Manitoba Teachers College and another Francais program for French speaking students at Provencher School. Courses begin the second week of January under M A Bonneau with multiple classes as needed. In 177 teachers enrolled last year across Metro Winnipeg and over a dozen other centres, with classes meeting weekly for two hours and ending in May. Each course offers three units of certification. The Francais authorization now covers all 12 years of schooling and experimental conversational French exists in grade one this year. A revised conversational French course for grades 4 to 6 has been used for two years.
