Obituary of Donald McCullough Pine Falls postmaster

Donald McCullough 52 local postmaster and Pine Falls resident died Friday December 12. Born October 16 1895 in Kenora Ontario he served in World War I earning the Military Medal. He is survived by Esther Marion Carl Thomas and siblings in Canada and Manitoba. Funeral was at Pine Falls United Church with Rev. J. E. Hunter. Burial in local cemetery. Pallbearers were L. E. Seguin F. E. A. McCutcheon G. A. Stewart R. Sands F. Lidstone and R. H. Perry.

Death of J W Carrlon Lac du Bonnet aviation veteran

J W Wally Carrlon of Lac du Bonnet died early Thursday at home. He came to Lac du Bonnet in 1933 with Western Canada Airways and later served with Canadian Airways and Canadian Pacific Airlines before becoming superintendent of Central Northern Airways. A skilled pilot known for bush flying, he had recently been recognized for achievements during the freeze up. He served on the Village Committee and was recently elected a councillor by acclamation. The community mourns with Mrs Carrlon. Funeral held in Winnipeg Saturday at 2 pm officiated by Rev S Richardson of Lac du Bonnet. Pallbearers listed as F Roy Brown Robt Guy J Sparman H Sturgeon R Sturgeon and S A Tomlinson.

Whitemouth Pack Men Re-Organize

First meeting at the rink shack on December 8 elected officers and discussed funds for better equipment. A vote to hold a drawing on December 13 followed. Santa’s Coming To Town In Lac Du Bonnet

In Lac du Bonnet on Saturday December 28 at 2 p m Santa Claus announced a quick town visit. He will depart the Bus Depot at 2, travel to the Lakeview Hotel, then Sparman’s corner and Petras corner before returning. A horse drawn sleigh will guide the parade.

Santa Claus visit planned for bus depot parade

The note invites children and families to meet Santa at the bus depot with a parade. It hopes many will attend, with parents possibly bringing cars for a larger reception and a joyful greeting for Santa.

The War Memorial building committee has the architect’s plans and work will start in spring as soon as weather allows. Total funds raised reach 7363.76 with steady growth, and continued effort is urged to complete the memorial rink project. Pine Falls notes celebrate births at Royal Alexandra Edmonton and Winnipeg General. Donald Brian Weir and Lynn Cecil Hamlin arrive, with families Dixon and Irvine noted. Armand Chagnon welcomes a baby girl as Hudson’s Bay staff adds new clerks. Community events include the Santa gifts, an orchestra name contest, a grand Cedar Chest prize, and a Chateau dance.

Curling season opens with ten teams in Pointe du Bois

The 1947 48 curling season begins Monday December 8 with ten teams and expected more after the holidays. Ice is reported good and a Christ mas concert is planned for December 22 in the Community hall. Christmas services are set for December 21 at St Marys church with Holy Communion in the morning and a carol service in the evening led by the Girls Choir under Mrs H R Eby. Mr J H Brownell is visiting Winnipeg.

Seven Sisters Notes Visitors And Local Remarks

Mrs M Everson and her father Mr Bissett visited Winnipeg for a few days. Mr and Mrs J Howcroft and Mrs A G Schultz and Mrs A Pitzek motored to Winnipeg for the day. A S Williams is on the sick list. P Neilson was a Winnipeg visitor last week. Mrs Neilson joined him for a day. Mrs Shield has left to join her husband in Winnipeg after two months with the Oxholm family. Weekend visitors to Seven Sisters were Bud Braund Fred Ans Gwen Richters Ted Raines and Ina Kuhn. Wanda Knopf left home to work in Winnipeg. Mrs H Schultz Harrington Washington and Mrs K Schultz Prosser Washington visited J Howcroft's for two weeks. Don Lawson attended a Rio Reds banquet and dance in Winnipeg December 10.

Beausejour hosts a high scoring hockey opener defeating Fairbanks-Morse of Winnipeg 17 to 2. Ray Dugard Eddie Englot and Micky McMaster led the scoring with four six and four goals respectively as Beausejour lines dominated the game and urged fans to return for more action.

Beausejour Branch of the Canadian Legion held its general meeting at the Municipal Hall on December 2. Plans include a January 1948 reunion and a February smoker. Don Shannon’s orchestra has been engaged for the Christmas Dance and school children will join in organized sports.

Christmas Concert set for December 18 at 8 15 p m in the Community hall with proceeds for the school. The yard gains a 15 foot slide and a complete skating rink as the juvenile hockey team practices under coaches Frank Hanton Merv North and Paul August. Lawrence Buhay has an ankle cast and Jean Beaudais returns to teaching after surgery at St Boniface hospital.

Beausejour High School held a December skating party attracting many beginners. Betty Englett won the Carnival Queen candidacy as Christmas exams loom. curling rinks were selected with skips named. Doreen Dutchak shopped in Winnipeg and met old acquaintances.

The Beausejong residence hosted C. E. Turner on December 10 for a milestone 73rd birthday with many friends attending. Shared honors went to Mrs. E. H.
