LAC DU BONNET Anglican Ladies re elected officers at their annual meeting on Monday December 6 in the Parish Hall. Mrs Wm Schenk was chosen for a second term as president with several officers also returning for another year including A Atkinson H Lavoie D Dancut M Enright D Ambrose K King M Maguire G Hardy J Hanton and Meda Wilson newly appointed as Junior Auxiliary. The group planned Christmas hampers and noted highway bon spiel catering. Canon Fryer offered encouragement for 1966. Lunch concluded the meeting with several members serving.
Pinawa Players held a Christmas party on Saturday December 11 at the Kelsey House. The program opened with the one act play Pen of My Aunt featuring Jan Ferrari Julie Atamanchuk Bob Pollock and Ben Benham.
The Lac du Bonnet Municipal Council chaired by Reeve H Olensky met December 7 with Councillors Sikora Tinant Belluk and incoming M Okrainec. Delegations discussed Lee River Hall tax exemption drainage Highway lines and property restrictions. By law 720 approved for sale of land to Mike Belevetz. dragline operator wages set at 1.25 an hour. several drainage and public works items authorized.
Maintenance workers at the Pinawa nuclear reactor voted 46 to 3 to strike against Atomic Energy of Canada. Local 608 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, led by Stan Carter, reported the Tuesday night vote on December 7. Negotiations may reopen, with no strike date set yet. The dispute concerns wages and fringe benefits. The union is certified by the Canada Labor Board as bargaining agent.
Pine Falls paper mill electricians Local 658 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers voted 100 percent in favor of a strike against Manitoba Paper Company. George Morris of Pine Falls said the vote occurred November 18. No strike date set as votes from sister mills in the east and further negotiations continue. Fringe benefits of a three year contract discussed.
Winnipeg Rotary clubs sponsor Leisureland at Winnipeg Arena from April 4 to 9 1966 to raise support for a new Metis and Indian youth centre. The selling and entertainment show will feature sports vacation garden home goods and more with exhibitors screened for product standards and ethics. Expected attendance around 50000, with plans to make the event an annual feature beyond 1966.

A mobile rehabilitation camp of Brandon jail prisoners is clearing shoreline and underbrush at Lake Adam for a Turtle Mountain park development. The plan includes 150 tents, trails, beaches, a motel, and day-use areas to preserve the area's natural beauty while providing meaningful work and future benefits to the inmates.
More than 200 teens attended the Great Falls Teen Canteen opening dance at the Recreation Centre on Saturday December 11. The go go sound from Satan and the D Men energized the crowd as they jived and swung until midnight under chaperones Mr and Mrs J Johnston Mr and Mrs S Melnick Mr and Mrs J Mendella Mr and Mrs E Jansson Mr and Mrs O Bernard and Mrs W Sutherland.
The Bank of Montreal said its prime lending rate will rise to six percent effective December 13, citing background monetary developments beyond the bank's control. The Toronto-Dominion Bank had a similar rise earlier. The Bank of Canada and the U.S. Federal Reserve also announced discount rate increases.
The Royal Bank of Canada reports net profit of 23.2 million or 3.49 per share for the 11 months ending October 31, with assets at 6,571 million the highest in bank history. Deposits total 5,921 million and loans reach 3,555 million, up 621 million from 1964. investment portfolio declined by 176 million as fiscal year end shifted to October 31.
