The Lac du Bonnet Board of Trade held a combined meeting and banquet at Casey's Inn with about 40 attendees including guests Nick Stryk MLA W Childe and Ed Gretsinger. Reeve E Wojciechowski spoke on drainage rural electrification hospital care and road improvements. The group adopted resolutions to urge Game and Fisheries to control timber wolves and preserve game. Next month’s event moved to January 10 at Casey’s Inn.

Early Closing By-law Takes Effect In Elma
Elma bylaw for early closing of shops is now in effect following a council meeting on November 15. The Manitoba province speed zone near the highway was approved 1000 feet north of the railway to 500 feet south, with a similar zone on Railway Avenue tabled for further bylaw action. The Winnipeg Electric Company was offered 1000 dollars more annually, but the council deemed it insufficient. A plan to move municipality boundaries north of the Winnipeg River could place Seven Sisters power plant in Whitemouth, boosting revenue. Tenders will be invited for Elma bridge gravel hauling as bridge plans proceed, with government takeovers and road maintenance expectations discussed for 1950.

Flashlight Club Ends Career Of Marauding Owl
In Brokenhead, Leo Molinski and Sally confront a marauding snowy owl that attacked a flock of geese. Sally strikes the owl with a flashlight, rendering it unconscious, and Leo ends its life. The goose was sold for Grade A. Ted Mosquin is mounting the owl, with a five foot wingspan.

14-UP Revives Dunked Bull
Evelyn Krawchuk found her family bull stranded on the river ice after school. Father P. Kindefora and W. Janczyn towed the bull from the river with a tractor onto a stoneboat. The rescued animal recovered after receiving 14 up and blankets in the barn.
