Fire destroys old landmark at Tyndall

A Tuesday afternoon blaze gutted the 47 year old Nelson store home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Tomcheski in Tyndall. Firefighters fought the flames after tearing up the tin roof but could not stop the fire. The couple and their two children became homeless and stayed with neighbors. Damages are estimated at 9000 dollars.

Feeble Old Moose Dies in Muskeg Case Solved?

Winnipeg reader Nathan Portnoy reports a very old moose bogged in a road ditch near Pointe du Bois. Hydro plant Supt. S. Sure and Portnoy buried the body after the moose could not be saved, raising a lighthearted query if it was Mike’s father.

Tragic drowning of Roger Bernard near Lac du Bonnet

Four year old Roger Bernard, son of Mr and Mrs Omer Bernard, went fishing with companions last Thursday afternoon. He wandered onto the ice, broke through, and disappeared. After 24 hours of diving his body was recovered Saturday morning. The funeral was held in Lac du Bonnet on Monday December 5 with many friends in attendance.

Local leaders propose a Beausejour community club with senior and junior divisions to provide youth entertainment this winter. Suggestions include sports, skating, crafts, theatre, and parent teacher collaboration, with plans for a mass meeting and potential rent free central location.

Pine Falls W.M.S Collects Clothing for European Aid

The Pine Falls Women's Missionary Society thanks residents for a clothing drive, shipping ten boxes and 354 articles to Winnipeg. The Missionary Monthly notes depots in Toronto Winnipeg Vancouver and ongoing shipments abroad totaling 18 tons to Britain Europe Germany France Greece Italy Hungary Holland Japan Korea. The group welcomes more clothing donations to supply the main depot, with special thanks to young volunteers.

Cribbage Party Allocates Prizes in Anderson Hall

On Friday November 25 a cribbage party in Anderson hall awarded prizes to Mrs. D. Jacques for ladies first, Mrs. S. Baker for ladies second, J. O. Jones and A. Ross for gents second. Iris Fraser and a friend visited Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Fraser while Iris Fraser’s party also included visits by John Stuart to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Reid. Enid Cousins and Verne Frantz spent the weekend in Seven Sisters. C Ireland has returned to work after illness.

Obituary of Fred Shushak Beausejour Foreman

Fred Shushak 62 of Beausejour Manitoba died Monday at St Boniface hospital. Born in Poland he came to Canada in 1907 and worked 36 years as a CPR foreman most recently at Beausejour. He married Annie Jaremko in 1913 and is survived by wife four sons and three daughters with ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Greek Catholic church Beausejour with Rev J Carmylo officiating. Renshaw funeral home Beausejour arranged the services.

Wolf Cub Pack To Be Formed At Lac du Bonnet

A well attended meeting Wednesday voted unanimously to form a Wolf Cub Pack in Lac du Bonnet. J J Watkins chaired the session as plans moved to start activities early next year with J C Harwood of the Boy Scouts outlining benefits for youths and parents. Principal J Patterson offered to lead. a preliminary fund was set up and a December 13 meeting planned to complete the organization.

Funeral services for Mr. Rerick were held at the River Hills Lutheran Church with burial in the churchyard cemetery. Born in Russia, he came to Canada 38 years ago. John Swoluk aged 65 died at his Cloverleaf home on November 27. Funeral services were held November 30 at 10 a.m. at the Greek Catholic church Cloverleaf with Rev Romanchuk and at 11:45 a.m. at the Greek Catholic church Cooks Creek with Father Row officiating.
