The notice explains date numerals on the address indicate due dates for subscriptions. It requests renewals with a $2.00 payment for one year sent to The Springfield Leader, Lac du Bonnet Manitoba, with spaces for NAME and ADDRESS and instructions for new subscribers.
The provincial Department of Public Works will recommend upgrading five NE highways in 1957. Transport minister Ron Robertson outlined a two part plan to ease holiday jams on old No 1 East, with by passes and resurfacing schemes from Lockport to Beausejour and beyond.
St. John’s Anglican W.A. annual meeting on Monday December 3 elected officers for the coming year with eighteen members present. Mrs W C Hardy president and Mrs T G Atkinson secretary were returned for a second year and Mrs R Enright elected treasurer. Conveners were appointed to committees and a benediction followed lunch service.
The Seven Sisters Falls Hospital Guild hosted its annual Xmas party on Monday December 3 with about 50 ladies in attendance. Mrs W W Bil led activities as guests enjoyed fun and frolic.
L Schlamp of the Springfield Social Credit League spoke at Memorial Hall Lac du Bonnet on December 4 to supporters. He warned that current rule deprives people of government control and discussed parity prices noting Social Credit offers 10 percent parity for agricultural products.
A new 4 H dairy calf club organized at Golden Bay School with 13 members. Officers include Robert Laneway as president and Dorothy Fuerst as club reporter. The group planned to visit Holstein herds in the Winnipeg milk shed and set a meeting for January 17 1957 at Golden Bay School.
Mr. Fred Arsenault, electrical engineer at Winnipeg’s Seven Sisters plant, won first prize of 309 in the Canadian Welding Society Awards Program. His paper described a major turbine repair method and procedure. The award, in the C grouping for repair and maintenance, will be presented in January at the Empire Hotel in Winnipeg.
Mrs Lawson and Mrs Taylor led a large Whitemouth Hospital gathering with games and a lunch prepared by a committee including Mrs Birston Cramer Thomson Picard Reid and Kon dratuk. M Everson welcomed guests as J Kuehn read a prayer. Santa Claus, resembling Charles Hill of Uover Seven Sisters, handed out presents to the ladies.
Beausejour hosts a Social Credit rally on Friday December 14 at the Ukrainian Hall with J Campbell Manitoba Social Credit League president as guest speaker and B Remple provincial organizer assisting. Federall Riding Springfield Social Creditors expand organizing activity with district meetings and home gatherings guiding plans.
Nine new members joined the Quarter Century Club of Abitibi Power and Paper Company Limited at the ninth annual banquet in Pine Falls on Sunday December 2. A gold watch was given to each retiree for twenty five years of service, with additional ring awarded to E Kahle. The club now totals 51 members and 11 associates.
The Parish of Our Lady of Laos Powerview celebrated the opening of a new Rectory on December 2 1956 with a blessing by Rev Father Bellavance and assisted by Fathers Morin Plamondon Bilodeau and Valcourt. Tea followed from 2 to 5 with a Crusaders guard of honor and dinner for visiting clergy.
R M of Lac du Bonnet council heard Mr Chas Lagsdin urge federal action on grain sales noting insufficient cash from quotas, misallocation of delivery, lower grades graded as No 5, and prairie farmers’ distress while refugees gain help. Council also addressed drain, drainage dispute, park land proposals, culvert reopening, and fence payment claims as investigations continue.
The Beausejour Jaycees annual Country Fair and Turkey Shoot drew larger crowds Friday and Saturday. The arena was packed with ice area and upstairs club rooms filled for the country fair. Visitors from Victoria Hillside Grand Beach districts traveled home with fine birds and other loot. A patron praised the Jaycees for goodwill and neighborliness and the fine work they are doing.
