Lac du Bonnet Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs George Hannaford of Lac du Bonnet Manitoba were honored at a surprise party at their home on Sunday August 15 for their 50th wedding anniversary. Married in 1904 at Christ's Church Fenton Devon England they later moved to Canada where Mr Hannaford worked in the Pinawa Power Plant control room and spent 41 years with the Winnipeg Electric Company before retiring. Their son Clarence of Flin Flon and daughter Gina of Birmingham Michigan attended with grandchildren and presented an electric refrigerator.

Beausejour Sheriff Thomas Deakin Dies in Norwood
Thomas John Deakin 88 formerly of Beausejour died Tuesday August 17 at his daughter’s home in Norwood. A former county court sheriff and bailiff at Beausejour for 37 years he retired 17 years ago and moved to Norwood 12 years ago. He leaves his wife Ada four sons Walter Ernest Alfred and Albert two daughters Mrs C Moxley and Mrs John Kamel 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral at Bardal Funeral Home Friday August 20 conducted by Rev John E Bethel with burial in Brookside Cemetery.

Tyndall Defeats Norwood 8-5 in Finals of Seven-Team Tourney
Tyndall defeated Norwood 8 to 5 in the finals of a seven team baseball tournament held at Tyndall on Sunday, August 1. The Lac du Bonnet Memorial Centre held a supper meeting at Lakeview Coffee Shop on Wednesday August 18 to review the August 2 financial statement. The report shows a net profit of 319.00 for the day, with a bit over 2.00 profit on the car, and plans for next year. A resolution to connect the Memorial Centre Hall and Curling rink to the village sewage system was approved, and 100 chairs were authorized for purchase. A painting project for the hall front before freeze up was approved, and thanks were extended to all who contributed to August 2’s success.

Good Roads Association Tours Manitoba Inspects Municipal Roads
The Manitoba Good Roads Association sent an eight thousand mile inspection tour of municipal roads towns and villages beginning August 16. The judges will visit municipal offices and rural papers supporting the contest while promoting the association and awarding trophies to best kept road systems and attractive towns. Members approved a 20 percent membership boost for 1954 and honors were given to H. French of Stony Mountain for fifty years of support. The judges committee includes J. E. McAuley chairman and K. Barkman among others.
